Readjust August 2021 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Late summer and vacation time for me and  my wife. This year will be a bit different than last year. Still not flying anywhere, but for this road trip indoor eating at restaurants is a thing again and visiting other people (my cousins) will be a nice change from Zoom calls.  I switch up my exercise when I travel.  No gym, but there will be plenty of bike rides, walking/hiking, and unicycle practice. In other words, there will be lots of adjustments during Readjust August. :-).

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. There are a lot of regulars here, but we welcome NEWBEs, and it is fine to start in the middle of the month if that's when you first see this thread. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme for August is a nod to wanderlust and the road. If you are traveling try to get something unique and representative on the way or at your destination. If you’re in the neighborhood all month, take some pics of the places a tourist would visit.  As an alternative, it’s the Olympics, anything pic that shows competition -- like tugging dogs, for example -- counts.

Olympic Tug of WarOlympic Tug of War

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Baltoscott Sorry you're having issues uploading your pics. I bet you have some awesome views there. Exactly, it will give you some issues if you use landscape orientation.

Loved those ones! So lucky.

Slow start to the month.  We start back in office full-time this week which will be quite the adjustment.  I already realized I forgot about 4 items at home that I need in office.  😰  I will definitely be making up the missed steps and get in some more movement now that I am in my office again.   Happy August!

Thanks @Jotex - I almost missed the Buffalo. They were pretty far back from the road. Those massive herds of a couple hundred years ago must have been a sight to see.

Yesterday was a trying, tiring day. Hubby fell in the night and had a deep gash over his right eyebrow. Eventually had to take him to the Emergency Room. He got 4 stitches for the cut, but his blood pressure was very high. I was a basket case all day, worrying. Had flashbacks to 14 years ago when he had a heart attack and almost died. Needless to say, he’s better. {sigh}

@Jotex OMG that sounds stressing. I hope your husband gets better. Wow, 4 stitches on the eyebrow and high blood pressure sounds serious, is he okay? Are you okay now? You were under a lot of pressure too. Sending you hugs and good wishes! 🤗

Anyone else notice that exporting data has been fussy lately?  It will give me an error of "something went wrong".  Not sure if it's the site, or me.

Best Answer

@Jotex I'm so glad to hear that! But yes, doctors say that bruises usually fade away in about 2 weeks. I hope it can be less than that, ice therapy helps. Also make sure he is taking vitamin C, you're a good wife. I'm sure he will be okay in your hands, though.

@SteppingBooks I haven't noticed it, but let me check!

@YojanaFitbit It's weird.  I've noticed it with the desktop at work, so it could be something within the desktop (I'm due for a new office computer).  Just trying to figure if it is me, or if it is a more serious issue.
