Readjust August 2021 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Late summer and vacation time for me and  my wife. This year will be a bit different than last year. Still not flying anywhere, but for this road trip indoor eating at restaurants is a thing again and visiting other people (my cousins) will be a nice change from Zoom calls.  I switch up my exercise when I travel.  No gym, but there will be plenty of bike rides, walking/hiking, and unicycle practice. In other words, there will be lots of adjustments during Readjust August. :-).  

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. There are a lot of regulars here, but we welcome NEWBEs, and it is fine to start in the middle of the month if that's when you first see this thread. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

 

The theme for August is a nod to wanderlust and the road. If you are traveling try to get something unique and representative on the way or at your destination. If you’re in the neighborhood all month, take some pics of the places a tourist would visit.  As an alternative, it’s the Olympics, anything pic that shows competition -- like tugging dogs, for example -- counts.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Traveled by train to Luzern on Wednesday to meet friends for lunch. I loved working there, and seeing these every day.

Phew, we had a heat advisory yesterday, and we will have another one today.  I don't remember August being quite this level of heat and humidity. I did better yesterday with water intake, and hope to keep that up today.  So glad tomorrow is Friday.

Got out in the woods on my ride yesterday. I really need a proper mountain bike for the trails, though what you see here isn't bad for my normal 'all arounder' bike. I don't know that most tourists seek out these kinds of places, but I usually do, so it counts as a scavenger hunt picture. 😀

I am SO disappointed in my failure to achieve weight loss, as I was doing great until 2-3 weeks ago, and was below 64 kg. I been feeling more and more bloated, constipated and very uncomfortable in my gut. Today I looked back at my calendar and noted 8 days I ate something with flour. So, I now have to figure out how to get my gut back to ‘normal’.

I hit the weight, step, pushup, pullup, pics, and unicycle goals. YAY!  @stoughjr -- can't quite seem to hit the sleep goal either.  @Jotex -- it is so hard to avoid flour completely, at least if you are a lifetime carb eater. But STEPtember is another month.

Thanks @Baltoscott for your encouraging comment. I managed fo get my weight back to just below where  I started on August 1, The wheat and gluten  sensitivity really takes a toll on my weight, and affects my energy level, brain fog, inflammation, … Gotta keep a better eye on it.

I did fairly well with steps, but fell short on a lot of other things.  It was a month of re-learning my pre-pandemic routine.  I am still working on it, but I definitely have more of a handle on it.  Instead of losing weight this month (overall), I ended up with a gain of 0.8.  Four more months of 2021.
