Recenter December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Recenter December!

2022 is just around the corner, but before you get there take a breath, reflect, connect with your friends and family and take stock of all the things that went right this year. Have a drink or two, and a treat or two, and, of course, a walk/hike/run or two, or three, or more.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or more steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for a holiday theme/meme while you are out and about and post at least three versions of the same scene/idea. Example: three different Santas, three different grinches, three different nativities.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Yep, twice to the gym so far and going again tomorrow. I have to sneak up on getting fit so I don't destroy myself. 😎 Thanks for asking!

Recenter December 2021 - Day 7 -

Making a little progress internally. Since October, my resting heart rate has gone from 62 to 57. Yay! And, I'm having a harder time getting into the aerobic heart rate zone, though I'm working out more vigorously at the gym. My pics are from our local nursery, a great place to walk in bad weather.

@Baltoscott - glad to hear you are on the mend!  I overdid it at the gym and my hip is killing me!

@Kneejay - your poinsettia pictures are beautiful!  We have 3 cats and I have heard they are poisonous to them so we never have any in the house.  I do enjoy seeing them when I am out and about.

@Baltoscott - is your neck feeling any better?

Had a good workout today and finally got my heart rate up into the aerobic zone - and beyond. Oops. I'll dial it back a notch next time.

Celebrated with an Epsom salts bubble bath (yay Dr. Teal!). Highlight of the workout - another old geezer (like me) with earbuds, belting out "Baby! Baby!" as he finished the leg machine. Boomers rock! 🤙 😄

You are right on target @Kneejay. And a nursery really is a great place to walk in bad weather.  Friday is a normal gym day for me, but I've got to get the cat to the vet and then go to DC, so I'm switching that workout to tomorrow morning.

My neck continues to get better @Carrie71; I'm almost done complaining about it 🙂

More from the neighborhood ...

Glad you’re better @Baltoscott and wish everyone good health and that you keep fit. I found out today a friend who was here on Sunday got Covid symptoms on Wednesday and tested positive. [She was in a choir concert last Saturday, and stood next to someone who coughed a lot. Only told me today… 🙄] So, I am going to self isolate for a few days, though an antigen self-test was negative. The numbers of Covid cases are rapidly increasing in Switzerland, and anyway further measures will go into force sometime next week, possibly another shut down. Stay safe Peeps!

Thanks @Jotex.  Felt good enough today get an 11 mile ride on the unicycle. Have you taken another COVID test yet? I'm hoping it past you by, and that your houseguest had a mild case. My office was planning to start its gradual reopening in January, but I think that is being pushed back to February now.
