STANDby July 2024 Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

STANDby July?  Honestly, it’s been so hot you might want to practice standing in the shade or head beck inside for most of the day just to survive!  Well, maybe it’s not so bad if you get out early. So do that, move about, pay attention to the heat and do your harder workouts early in the day (or inside with AC) and stay hydrated (and if you live in the southern hemisphere layer up when you go out)  🙂

How It Works:

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Art? Sez who?Art? Sez who?

The theme this month is one we’ve done before — street art.  Pretty much anything outside. Murals, sculptures, graffiti … functional art is especially cool (i.e., painted fire hydrants etc.)

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

No progress yet on my nerve pain problem.

Sadly we had to call the vet out to put Walter to sleep a couple of days ago.  He had lost the use of one of his back legs, and couldn't stand up properly:  it was the beginning of his system shutting down, so we opted for a home visit so that his discomfort didn't stretch out.  A lady vet came and was enormously kind and patient, giving us time and respect, and he went peacefully.  The house is so quiet without him, not that he was a noisy dog, but we always were aware of where he was, and he was so much part of our daily routines.  We're both very sad to have lost him, but comforted by all the positive and wonderfull memories we have of him, a beautiful, intelligent dog, and family member.  We'll never forget Walter.  Thank you all for the kind words in the June thread.

This cat art reminds me of our recently adopted 3-year old cat, Thorn.  They don't look alike, but Thorn has caught a couple mice and I've taken to calling him Killer, which is inscribed on this one's flamingo-adorned food dish.

Killer!Killer!

I'm so sorry about Walter, Vidd. He was a good dog. I always liked that you played the piano for him. I hope you don't stop doing that.

My condolences @Vidd .  I had a chihuahua that passed away a few years ago so I know what you're going through.
