Stairs

Sometimes I make my goal of 10 flights, sometimes not. Today my Fitbit Chargr HR said I walked 47 flights. I did a lot of walking today, but I have no idea where the 47 flights came from.  Any ideas what happened? It was quite windy today, so I'm thinking that it may be the wind. Could it? In the past, I've walked up and down many flights that hadn't counted, but I don't think 47 flights worth. I was even incorrectly awarded two badges, no idea how to delete them, for the excessive flights.

Although I haven't had this happen with my Charge HR (only had it a couple of months), it once or twice happened with my Fitbit One when I was on the treadmill.  It showed 21 flights, and was clearly in error.  Not sure why, maybe an air pressure thing, as I understand that the stairs algorhythm involves gauging air pressure.  I'm sure someone will post an answer to your question for those, like me, who are interested...

@Joy_You are close, it is air pressure and the wind causes that. A year or so ago we had a Fitbitter walking between a controlled atmosphere laboratory into a normal air pressured laboratory and picking of floors. Also others moving from an air conditioned office in to a non air conditioned stairwell and going down stairs.

I had an odd one last Summer, long distance drive, very hot, car aircon on full. When I got out for a coffee break I gained a stair..

The inbuilt altimeter relies on air pressure.

Thanks for the info Colin. Is there a way to delete my unearned badges and my unearned floors?

@Joy_The only way to delete the floors is to use the Manual Driving record but then you will lose steps. For Badges the only way is to send an email to support and they may help. http://help.fitbit.com/?cu=1

I take the good with the bad because many times on my walking I don't get floors for the effort. I have marginal gradients I walk up and according to Google Earth and Google Pedometer they are about 11' and I know the effort is there.

Smiley Happy I made the effort on a couple of occasions to attain the artificial badges because I have an athletic track near where I live and the concrete steps leading down into the track are 2+ floors. I spread it over the day because I drive past the track.

Thanks Colin. I will leave them and rationalize it by thinking that they make up for all the stairs I've climbed that never register. Thanks again for your advice!

I wore my fitbit today at work.  I have done two flights of stairs but my fitbit is boasting that I did 14 flights.  It was very windy today, and very muggy......could this be why I I did awesome at stairs?  all the walking outside?

In the past, the wind boosted my steps too. I'm not sure about the humidity. It was very humid here too but I don't think my steps were boosted.

That happened to me today. I was out in the wind and got 69 flights of stairs. I have heard of that for a while, but this was the first time I got such a graphic illustration of the principle.
