Stomping STEPtember 2020 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Fall arrives this month — the start of falling leaves cooler temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere (soon I hope - very hot now!), and new green warmth in the Southern.  It is a great time to get outside, stomp around, and get your steps

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme this month is STEPS (It is Stomping STEPtember, after all).

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I don't usually use the community site but as I am really struggling with my weight/health I thought I would try this out

My goal is a measly 1,000 steps a day - yes it is measly but I am restricted by my disabilities 😞 and up until August my steps were around the 600 mark.

The other part of my goal is to lose 3lb this month

Welcome @carysann -- the weight is mostly about how much you eat so take a few weeks to focus on what you are doing now (track it), and then come up with a couple of changes to work on that. Better to do one or two things at a time, rather than big huge changes.  As to steps, you are making a good bump up over August. See how that goes the rest of September and maybe bump it up when you join us in October if it makes sense then.

You can do it, @carysann!  I was the same when I first got my Inspire, barely achieved 1000 steps a day, but now I reliably get at least 5,000.  What is your house like?  Do you have a yard or garden or anything like that?  What about a hall?  The way that I slowly increased my steps was to walk up and down our hall a few times, holding onto the walls as I went so that I didn't fall over, and challenged myself to beat my starting steps by 50 every day, then increased it every week.

Having a disability is harder than able-bodied people realise, but you aren't alone any more 'cos I'll be with you every step of the way and I do, honestly, understand the struggles of disabilities 'cos I'm disabled too!

It took until 5pm to persuade our senior puppy to go for her only walk yesterday (she usually has 2 a day) so didn't even manage 6k steps yesterday, let alone 7k  😞

Thanks @SteppingBooks -- that last batch are from a neighborhood about a mile or so from me that is off my commuting route. Whenever I get obsessed with upping my floor counts I go meander through it on my bike and watch my heart rate climb. 🙂

Managed to do yesterday's 30 squats without holding onto the hall walls at all and managed 200 sit-ups too, so I felt really proud of myself by the time I went to sleep last night!

@Baltoscott  Unfortunately my commute to work, when I do go in, requires a car.  I may just have to make it a point to go looking.  I do have to wander over to pick up some things from HR today; Maybe I'll go the route with extra stairs.

Well, with the knee surgery and convalescence, this month’s pretty much a wash. I’ve trimmed back my goals to what might still be possible.
