Stomping STEPtember 2020 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Fall arrives this month — the start of falling leaves cooler temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere (soon I hope - very hot now!), and new green warmth in the Southern.  It is a great time to get outside, stomp around, and get your steps

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme this month is STEPS (It is Stomping STEPtember, after all).

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I think I'm going to adjust some of these goals for October now that my tracker is showing higher calories burned, and I am not meeting my water goal at all 😥  I think it's the cold weather that has significantly disrupted the water intake.   Whoops 😞 I'll get better about it (Hopefully)

Best Answer

You're not alone with the water intake issue, @SteppingBooks .

I used to have the same problem with my water goal when I first got my Inspire 12 months ago, but what worked for me was to invest in a 500ml mug and a 1.5 litre bottle of water that I refill every morning, I then challenge myself to have at least one hot drink (using the mug) a day and work my way through the water bottle too.  I use squash to give the water a bit of flavour and getting through 4 hot drinks a day is 2 litres, even though it doesn't feel like it, and it's only 2.30pm but I've already downed my 2 litres.  If you're more of a fizzy drinks kinda person, get yourself 2 litre bottles of those to challenge yourself to drain every day too.

It takes a while to get the hang of and into the habit, but my body is always hydrated now that I've found what works for me!

@AmandaGeorge  I actually can't handle fizzy drinks (makes my eyes water terribly), but I may switch to luke-warm/hot drinks as the temperature drops!  I did better when I was in-office because I would just carry my water bottle everywhere and even while in meetings, I'd drink from it.  I have a larger water bottle to use.  I may have to just set reminders.  I get so focused in some of the work, and then it's like, "oh, this is cold, I don't want cold".  😥  I was experimenting in March with mixing some hot water and cold water from the water dispenser at work to kind of take the edge off the coldness.  I probably will need to do that again.

My hubby is the same with hot drinks going cold @SteppingBooks  - he frequently gets half way down his tea or coffee then forgets it's there and won't drink it when it's cold.

How about investing in a flask and filling it with your drink of choice first thing in the morning and then drinking it throughout the morning so that it doesn't go cold, then refil it at lunchtime?  Are there any flavour things you can add to your warm water to increase the flavour to hopefully encourage you to drink it while it's still warm, like warm fruit squash or something like that?  I don't know what's available in your country 'cos I've never left the UK in my life, but are there any powders you can get to add to your water or anything like that?

If you've got a mobile phone, maybe set a reminder on there to drink 250ml an hour, every hour you're awake?
