It’s STEPtember, my birthday month! — back to school for the kids, a shift from hot to cooler temperature, and falling leaves and changing colors outside. And just the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere, cooler to warmer weather. It is a great time to get outside, stomp around, and get your steps. If you’ve not signed up for one of these before, read on and then come join us.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

That's a lot of steps!
The theme this month is STEPS, of course! Laminai, Belize.
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Pretty good on goals this month, other than weight-lifting and sleep. For sleep, I think the answer is getting to bed earlier. The dogs and cat start trying to wake me up around 5:30. I can put them off and doze for 30 minutes or so, but usually not any longer than that. I'll lower the nightly goal 5 minutes next month just to give myself a little more positive reinforcement. For weightlifting I need to work on the 'when.' When I was really good with that habit it was first thing in the morning, but other things are competing with my time then. Need to get my head in the game on that one.

Get a date for admission to the London hospital | 1/1 |
Thanks for everyone's good wishes for my trip to London. The set-up of the car worked really well - better than I dared hope. It was a bit tricky to get in, but the sofa cushions were very comfortable, and helped to smooth out our journey along England's bumpy roads. When you're lying down in the back of the car, the bumps g=feel bigger, and they're definitely noisier. It was about a four-hour trip, so we took a break half-way.
The hospital appointment was early morning - 08:30 - so I think it was the first one of the day for the doctor I saw. I was with him for an hour, which I thought was impressive. He did the usual physical tests for suspected nerve problems, and asked me a lot of questions. He also made me walk, which he could see was very difficult and painful, and then made me try with one foot in front of the other. Impossible! He's not sure yet what's going on, but is in the process of booking me in for a whole series of tests and scans, and I believe he is determined to get to the bottom of it all.
