Stretch and Tone Yoga

Is anyone using stretch and tone yoga (expecially older females) during or as a follow up to weight loss? I have lost a lot of weight and I KNOW things won't go back to the way they were many years ago, but does it help and have you noticed a difference with the way your clothes fit (aside from the weight loss)?

Personally I hate yoga but that's just me. I imagine a yoga regime would actually be terrific. Not so much for weight loss but for toning, flexibilty and retaining range of motion as we get older it's very good. Also people who enjoy it cite the emotional relaxation. Personally a hike does the same thing, for me yoga was just kind of boring and painful.

Hi, Yes, I have been doing some yoga videos as a way to tone and firm up muscles. I do the yoga once or twice a week. I have been using a rowing machine at the gym as well so I am not sure if it's the rowing or the yoga but my clothes do fit better/more loosely. Try the yoga and see if you like it - it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I've been going to a Les Mills BodyFlow class at my gym that combines Tai Chi, Pilates, and Yoga.  This more has helped me with gaining and toning muscle which allows my body to burn calories faster, but the class itself is not much of a fat burner.  The results are when I then go back to my cardio workouts.

The best fitness yoga video I have ever doen was Jillian Michael's "Yoga Meltdown." It's aerobic and really gets your sweating. I think I lost a few pounds when I did the tape rather consistently, but I have lost more weight from running and doing muscle strengthening/aerobic class.

Most traditional yoga videos aren't challenging enough to really feel a burn, but they have helped increase my flexibility.

I usually take a series of classes throughout the week at my local Y. I just took the Less Mills Body Flow class for the first time to day. I noticed that it is not a real calorie burner and I am trying to lose weight. I really enjoyed the class though, i just don't want it to interfere with my journey. Have you gotten great success with this class?

I will actually tell you that I do some type of yoga at least once a week maybe twice depending on the week and how everything lines up with my workouts.  I will also tell you that most people you say they don't like yoga is because they cannot do it.  Yoga is the fountain of youth.  Doing yoga will allow you to do a lot of other functional activities that you would have never though possible.  I will also tell you that I have not really noticed any different in the way my clothes fit because of yoga but I can definitely tell a difference in my functional ability because of yoga.  This is why I like doing Yoga.  It is hard at first but it does get easier just like everything else.  I would say try and do yoga at least once a week and after you do that for several months you will be wanting more.  It really does just feel that good after you complete the routine.
