Did you mean:

Using your gait to determine distance traveled.

I would love to see a fitbit watch feature that would allow user to preset their watch by their gait.

That way when you are in a foreign environment, strange city, you could go out for a walk, power walk or run and know the distance travelled.

That has been available, I think for all models, for many years.

On phone app:

Days of Exercise tile > gear icon near top right > Stride Length

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

your fitbit is intended to capture distance and steps. for more accuracy you can enable GPS which will give you a map of your walk, power walk or run as well. you also set up your stride when you set up your watch.

There's going to be a Zoom conference titled "Estimating Energy Expenditure during Exercise Using Wearable Sensors" in May that will discuss some of these issues.  It's described here BIOMECH-L these people are researchers so it will probably be well worth watching.
