So, just looking for other people who bike at least once a week, but are not road warriors. I have found a friend willing to ride once a week. We started riding 10 miles every Saturday; now we ride 15-25 miles most Saturdays. It takes about 2 hours. We dont go super fast, we average 12 miles per hour, and get passed quite a bit by the more dedicated bikers. Anyone else ride their bke for exercise? fun? with their kids? to work?

Most average riders are less than 13 mph. But then that depends on the bike you are using. I ride, when not working, between 30 and 80 miles a week. My usuall ride in 12-13 miles and takes about an hour wiht hills.
I try and ride at least one Toure de Cure for Diabetes each yer and that is usually 27 to 40 miles. That has been hekping keep my blood sugars to a great great.

My son and I rode in the Tour de Cure last year. It was fun, and well organized; however, I was a little surprised by how much money I was asked to raise before being allowed to actually ride. Friends were generous, though. We rode one of the shorter sections, I think it was 10 miles.
My bike is a fairly lightweight older road bike; I bought it used in 1997, but I am not sure how old it really is. My friend rides an "ancient" Lotus road bike - she thinks hers is at least 20 years old. They ride great, and the components are good.

I have ridded in Dallas, Austin and again this year in Austin. The cost for registaration is betwnn 15 and 25 dollars and then I have to have 200 in pledges. The first year I road was in Dallas and it was in July. Being 63 at the time and full of no brains I worde 63 miles. I made it but it was a ride.
Last year I rode 40 and will do about the same this year.
Where is you ride?
I am goin gto ride 30 miles Saturday to Kick Off a rider who is going to ride 11000 mileas around the US.

Florida's Tour de Cure - I think it was Sarasota. The registration said Sarasota, but the website said it was just north of there, in a suburb. It was held there again this year, but I decided I wanted to focus my donations elsewhere. I am using Charity Miles every week - it is an app that allows you to donate mileage from walking, running or biking to a charity of your choice. I have started a group for that as well.

When I am teaching I find it hard to get more than one day of ridding in. This weekend I did 33 miles. The fact that daylight savings in is will help me to get a couple of 1 hours rides in during the early evening.
Did not go fast on the Salado Smokin Spokes reide, miss my turn hence 33 miles, but I did average 11.9 mph. I need to work on hills. I usually have a 3 mph speed up the hills.

Well I believe that it is finally spring here in N.E. Ohio and will be taking my bike this weekend to the shop to get it checked over. I know that I need brakes (front and rear) and the chain seems to have stretched a little. Repairman is going to look this over and then it will be back on the trails.... I can't wait to get back outside to exercise......

Well the temprature here in Texas is a bit warm for good cycling. I enjoyed a 12 mile raide last weekend and look to put on a few more miles this weekend. Once school is out I will be able to ride 3 or 4 times a week if not more.

Of course that depends on just where is Texas you are. We had a swing from low of 38F to high of 83F at the "official" recording site here (Austin) yesterday.
Enjoy the wildflowers while you (we) can.

Looking forward to those hot and humid days here in Ohio. I have three different bike trails that I can ride. One is approximately 15 miles round trip, one is approximately 25 miles round trip and the other, which is the hardest with steep hills and not much shade, is approximately 33 miles round trip. I made the mistake of riding this trail one humid afternoon without any water. Will never do that again!!! It gets the blood flowing and those few extra pounds that have made their residence around my waist will soon be looking for new housing.

We have some great trails in Fl; I try to ride most Saturdays - since January -- that was my resolution; to get my beautiful bike out with meon it at least once a week. My friend and I have only missed 4 weeks so far. We ride anywhere from 10-26 miles. It really does ramp up the metabolism a bit for a few days and I feel better when I make the time to do it.

Good components are the key. Mine I got from BIke Nashbar for $500. It had 105 components. My commuting bike is a lot heavier has a triple crank and 7 speeds for 21 but it gets me to the store, dentist, etc. BTW the road bike is aluminum and is also a triple crank for 30 speeds. Works great in the hill country of Texas.

I have had four back surgeries and both knees totally replaced. I have a Trek Navigator and it really does wonders when I am riding. The seat has been adjusted to protect me knees from any injury and the handle bar has been adjusted so that I am sitting straight up, not leaning forward, to protect the back.
Now, just have to wait until it gets a little warmer. 60 degree weather is still a little cold for me, but I know that summer and those hot, humid, no wind days are fast approaching. I can't wait until those days arrive.

I would love to find someone to ride with. Being able to talk with another biker would be much better to help pass the time and make the ride more enjoyable. Anyone out there from the Youngstown, Ohio area that rides the Mill Creek Trail from Beaver Township to Niles or the Green Belt Trail from Lisbon to Leetonia?

I havent been a big rider, but I have managed to somehow commit to doing the MS ride this Sept. 150miles in 2 days. This should be interesting. As soon as the Oklahoma weather will cooperate somewhat, Im going to be out riding trying to get ready for Sept.

I just started riding again because I developed plantar fasciitis. I thought it would be easier since I have been walking so much. But walking uses a lot different muscles than biking.
Twenty years ago I was riding an average of 100 miles per week. Then I stopped when I had kids.
