biking

So, just looking for other people who bike at least once a week, but are not road warriors.  I have found a friend willing to ride once a week. We started riding 10 miles every Saturday; now we ride 15-25 miles most Saturdays.  It takes about 2 hours. We dont go super fast, we average 12 miles per hour, and get passed quite a bit by the more dedicated bikers.  Anyone else ride their bke for exercise? fun? with their kids? to work?

I just started riding again because I developed plantar fasciitis. I thought it would be easier  since I have been walking so much. But walking uses a lot different muscles than biking.

Twenty years ago I was riding an average of 100 miles per week. Then I stopped when I had kids.

Whether you use the stiff cycling shoes or not, suggest you get strong arch supports or orthotics in whatever you wear biking.

Because the lever that you create with all your weight on the heel with the forefoot on the pedal is actually causing more weight to be applied to those tendons compared to walking.

While it is nice and no impact, the strain is just and usually greater than walking easily, almost equal to running depending on how you run.

I have had no pain in my feet when I ride as opposed to just walking. Then again, I am taking it easy and only doing 20 minutes.

The other day I had to ride home from school 24 miles. To day I rode 12+ miles in 1hr 1min and that was after mowing the lawn... 5/6 of an acre.  Was a good day. During the week I do what I can and work hard on Sat.  I am riding to raise $ for diabetes. Anyone that would like to support me can do so by going to main.diabetes.org/goto/spangmks.
