I noticed a definite "knot" developing in my butt from using a StairMaster. It was intended for purely the cardio benefit, but it als produced visible results in my upper legs. So the post about stair lunges was spot-on, and would probably be a good sub if you can't get on a "SM". I hate it - it's not pleasant, but it has been good for my heart. I used to have an extra beat, probably a precursor to tachacardia. But it went away.
My cardiologist was pleased.

Butterfly lifts... get on your hands and knees, take your bent leg (one at a time of course) and lift it up and down, swing out and do 10 each leg x 3. you will feel it.
