I was told that eating "Candied Ginger" will help with digestion as well as many other things.
Has anyone else ever taken these? It is raw ginger covered lightly in sugar to make it taste better when you eat it.
How often a day do you have one? Just one or a few? Before or after you eat? LOL

I think ginger has a wonderful taste. I've eaten ginger candy but I would think that the sugar would counter any benefit of the ginger.

Candied ginger could be a dangerous thing to snack on. It can be very good. To candy the ginger it will be brought to a boil in a sugar syrup, likely turned off to get all the sugar into it. This may be done more than once until saturated. Then it will be dried to a certain point, then rolled it sugar. When I used to have indigestion I would take ginger capsules. Same basic effect, no sugar.

I drink Lemon and ginger tea. Helps me when I'm nauseous or got stomach cramps. It has saved me from nausea more than once.

I like to add a bit of ginger to as many dishes as I can, within reason. I also drink ginger ale or ginger beer as well. When I was given meds for a surgery, one of them had a side effect of upsetting the stomach. My Dr says that most other doctors would have prescrived an antacid, but he tells his patients to drink Canady Dry ginger ale. He says he knows it is soda and laden with sugars, but it is better than a prescribed antacid.
So I drink ginger ale and ginger beer on occasions, but usually I dilute it with a bourbon......

I use candied ginger as anti-car-sickness medication. It works for me.

Chocolate covered crystalized ginger = best trail snack ever. I'm considered pre-diabetic and have to watch my total carb intake or blood glucose goes a little high - anything over 32-40 grams of carbs at once (especially when I'm not out walking) gives me a spike. These are ~ 140 calories per 1/4 cup serving, 50 calories from fat. 1 gram of fiber, 21 total grams of carbs. This is the nutrition info for the Trader Joes brand cccginger, but I'm guessing that the other stuff I found is pretty similar.
Yeah, they taste really good too. They do help me with nausea (Crohn's disease) but I'm not sure that it's not just placebo effect. If they didn't taste so good, I'd probably skip them. I haven't noticed any digestive changes either way. I have more problems with absorption than digestion.
