Food you hate the most!!!

Hey guys, I'm usually not a hater person but I'm curious about your personal experiences about this...

I recently went to a family meeting, where I found out about this family recipe called "Beef Tripe Soup", which is basically beef belly. I was interested and willing to eat the hole meal but for some reason I didn't like the taste of that specific part of the beef. I was kind of disappointed since the soup was really great. But at the end, I couldn't eat it and I think I won't try that again. I love food but for this I'll make an exception.

What about you? Have you had this type of experience with food? 😜

Hi @YojanaFitbit

I hate fish. I have tried many different kinds and I hated them all. I know it is supposed to be healthy but I just cannot eat it.

Best Answer

@cathm Really? I thought I was the only one that had that particular problem with fish, I really hate the smell and taste of it. Actually, I don't like seafood in general. And I've also tried different kinds and plates, but sorry not sorry. I just can't. What I try to do is check what vitamins and food supplements I can eat to have the precious omega-3, vitamins D and B2, calcium,  phosphorus and minerals. Since I know I will never eat fish. 😣

Hi @cathm and @YojanaFitbit

I'm really picky with food but the food that I'll never eat again is cow brain soup, my mum prepared it once and it wasn't good at all.

@cathm, I didn't like fish before but now I can eat fish. 😊

Have a nice day!

Blue cheeses and most offal based foods; liver, kidney, tripe, haggis, etc. Wasabi and English mustard. Not the heat, the taste.

I know someone who thinks coriander tastes like soap. Apparently this is relatively common.

Best Answer

@Ftumch You're right, I ate blue cheese once and I didn't like it at all. Same thing with Wasabi jaja. Not sure why!

I can say that I like almost everything, but recently I've felt that I don't really enjoy most seafoods as much as I thought 😅

I like fish and shrimp in small quantities, but that's pretty much it, and I really don't like Crab, Anchovy, Clams and Oysters.

I used to eat all of those foods when I was a child, so it's just something that happened naturally I guess, things change 😆

My mother was English and raved about steak and kidney pie.  When I was 5 she made her  beef pie once and some of the pieces tasted funny, and when I looked closely I could see it had no grain.  I accused her of putting kidney in it, she said no, when I asked about the lack of grain she said it was that my dad -had bought an expensive cut of meat-that is when I knew it was kidney, my father would never buy an expensive cut of meat and if he did he surely wouldn't let her cut it up for a pie.   She admitted it later, I didn't eat dinner that night.

most disgusting smell and taste I ever had,

@BASILCHIVES Wow, while I was reading your post, a lot of memories came to my mind. My mother used to cook thinks like that, she also used to hide her recipes but you're right you can tell that something is not right by the smell of it. By the way, I've never heard about kidney pie. 😐

I never could learn to like tripe.  I make posole instead.

I do not like salmon.  I know it is good for me, and I want to like it, but no matter how often I try, it is a real chore to finish even half of the serving.

Uh, yeah..... ditto on the cow brain soup, or really any recipe containing brains is a non starter for me

Best Answer

OMG @Nimuae, copy past to that! I don't approve any recipe with brains on it. 😬

It's all about the texture and odors. If something smells different or feels funny, it makes me venture more cautiously. My mother-in-law would fix a specialty dish for Thanksgiving, that I couldn't force myself enjoy. It was a German sauerkraut dressing with chopped liver and gizzards from the turkey. Generally I like sauerkraut, but this stuff smelled and looked funny. Some was stuffed into the turkey and some was left on the stove, but nothing done to it made it less horrible. Not sure what sauce it had, but knowing might not have helped. Never asked for the recipe either.

Olives are a hard no for me as well as anything with cilantro.  I hate when I go out to eat and my meal comes covered in cilantro.

Best Answer

Hi @gpint  cilantro is fine, in smaller amounts. Notice it's pretty, but it's also just too much! Green and black olives - any difference in your avoiding them?

Eeww ~ That does sound a bit too different, and I am a pretty adventurous eater.  I have seen turkey and stuffing served with sauerkraut, but not together in the bird.

Best Answer

Once the right level of fermentation is reached, the sauerkraut will be pleasantly tart, not unlike the way kombucha is tart but enjoyable. Some sauerkrauts are so mild that they're almost sweet, but most are on the sour side. The longer you let it ferment, the tangier and more flavorful it will be. I like it but my stomach has a special way to tell me that's best if I don't eat it. 🙁

@YojanaFitbit  as a kid, my folks would have sauerkraut with sausage on occasion, or some on a hot dog, but this was odd. All things in moderation!

Awww thanks @Odyssey13. Thanks for the piece of advice, I think this happens to me only when I eat it at night. Not sure why. 😅
