My new meal plan needs me to have a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack - I often have fruit in the morning but I usually prefer savoury for my afternoon one, however I'm not a fan of potato chips and so am stuck for ideas on what are healthy budget-friendly savoury snack alternatives?

An assortment of nuts (unsalted and unsweetened) is easy, low budget and will provides healthy fats and proteins, as well as fibers. A unsweetened nature joghurt contains some carbs, proteins and probiotics.

Hi, thank you. I’m not a huge fan of nuts as they are but in things they aren’t so bad. I’m also experiencing extreme hunger so snacks need to be filling, any thoughts?

Maybe something like a turkey & cheese or ham and pickle roll up? Cottage Cheese perhaps?

I do love cottage cheese, thank you for reminding me it exists! I'm a pescatarian so meat isn't an option, and I do need to work on my protein intake so maybe that's a good plan

popcorn - for me it is popcorn. you can pop your own or buy it for the microwave, plus you can add different spices to it so its a different snack each day. yumm

Hummus with baked pita chips or celery, carrots for dipping is a satisfying snack.
Roll up a slice of cheese with lettuce.
Always chose a snack that has some protein, it will help keep you full longer.

Taralli are nice - italian dough things. I like them a lot more than breadsticks, crackers or pretzels. You can make them yourself to save money. But they have a load of olive oil in and are surprisingly high in calories - about the same as nuts, so it depends what is 'healthy' for you. These days I'm trying to stick to carrots and celery (inc leaves) sprinkled lightly with salt; I like that I can allow myself a decent volume of stuff to chew, making it easier to stop snacking.

I was just thinking of roasting some chickpeas. Would that be an option? They're pretty tasty!

Hummus with carrots! That's my go-to. I don't really like potato chips, so luckily that's not something I crave, but I do love hummus with carrots.

Hmmm sweet chilli philly!
I like celery or carrots with peanut butter.
I am a massive crisp fiend so I have 1 sort of salt and pepper nuts (whatever is available) and then mix in unsalted other nuts so they're all salted without overdosing. For example (3 of each cos calorie specific) salt and pepper peanuts, and plain almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, I often have that for breakfast cos I am not a morning person. Or cloud bread, you can make that savory, or add a savory topping (also great for breakfast if you made a double batch the night before!

Try baked mozzarella sticks, a crunchy cheese snack for the whole family that's also rich in calcium.

I really like zucchini chips.
Cut the zucchini into slices about 0.5 cm thick. Brush them with olive oil on all sides. Mix together the parmesan, breadcrumbs, chopped basil leaves, minced garlic, salt and pepper.
Roll the zucchini in the cheese mixture and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer. Bake the chips in a preheated 220°C oven for 25-30 minutes until crispy.

OMG, forgot Hummus even exists. Been looking for something to dip celery sticks into. But I agree, celery sticks with baked pita chips is an awesome combo.
