There are 9 calories in every gram of fat. So if the fat content is 5.6 this is 50.4 calories from fat. This is why keeping the fat content down is so important. There are 4 calories in every gram of carbs and protein, and 9 in every gram of fat.

just a side note: keeping the fat content down is NOT necessarily important.  if you are eating high carb, then yes, keeping fat content down is important.  if you're eating low carb, then it's not nearly as important.

Counting calories is a lot like playing the game of tic tac toe. Although the playing of the game is easy...ultimately your effort is a futile exercise. Count carbs, particularly starchy and sugary ones, try to restrict them if healthy lasting weight loss is your goal.

fat helps you to feel full and eat less calories overall. eating lower fat means you will be hungry, and often and the extra carbs you eat to make up for it will be stored as fat anyway, so why bother? it might cause you to lose weight in the short term , but nobody wants to feel hungry forever, its the hallmark of yoyo dieting. high carbs and low fat are almost always the culprit.

To calculate "Calories From Fat", simply look up the "Total Fat (g)", multiply it by 9, then round to the upper-most 10 units.

Examples:

Total Fat (g) : 10.7

Calories From Fat (exact): 10.7 x 9 = 96.3

Calories From Fat (round-up): 100

Total Fat (g) : 3.7

Calories From Fat (exact) : 3.7 x 9 = 33.3

Calories From Fat (round-up): 40
