Auto track is not working properly on my Inspire 3

ANSWERED

IMG_1543.png

I have the FitBit Charge 5. These are my activity settings. They have been for the past month+. Every time I do a few jumping jacks, it auto-recognizes the elliptical even though it is set to never recognize that type of exercise. It also never recognizes runs (I want it to!) and auto-recognizes walks after 6 minutes even though it’s set to 15 minutes. What is going on and how can I correct this?

@Meg8987    You need to change a setting on the Inspire 3 itself to stop your jumping jacks-> elliptical issue.  I don’t have hands on experience with the Inspire 3, but I have this same feature on my Sense 2.  I apologize if this isn’t perfect.

  • Swipe left/right on your Fitbit screen to Exercise and tap on it
  • Elliptical might be at the top in a Recent list (it’s been turning itself on) or you might need to scroll through the list to find Elliptical
  • 99% sure you tap on that
  • Swipe up to go to the settings you make for that activity — you will see things like Start with a goal
  • Look for Auto-start and toggle it off

Fitbit put this Auto-start on six shortcuts: walk, run, bike, elliptical, rowing, and spinning.  You mentioned walks starting in six minutes.  Your Fitbit is auto-starting walk on the Exercise app.  This is a different feature from the 15 min list.  Repeat the same steps in the Walk shortcut on your Inspire 3 to make this stop.

Please notice that you are experiencing Auto-start activities.  This is different from your Auto-track activities.  Fitbit also calls the auto-tracked activities SmartTrack.

I don’t understand why your auto-tracked (SmartTrack) runs aren’t working properly.

Hi Maria,

Thank you for your response. I have tried following up with my support ticket but I am afraid they are not understanding my issue. They have offered me solutions that don't work or aren't relevant to the problem I am facing. I am hoping to get some more helpful advice here.

@Meg8987   You wrote that you use a Charge 5, but your post is in the Inspire 3 forum.  In addition, you are describing an auto-start feature that will start the Exercise app for six different activities, including elliptical.  This feature is on the Inspire 3, but not the Charge 5.

When this happens, are you seeing things on your Fitbit screen?  This is something that happens with the Exercise app.  The Auto-tracked activities in your screenshot and tracked in the background.  You get details in your app when you are done.

Can you share more details?

Hi Laurie,

Thank you for your response. I have the Inspire 3. Apologies for the mis-speak in the first post. I wasn't sure how to tell which model was which.

Every time I start doing jumping jacks, my watch screen shows that I am on the elliptical (I don't want it to do this). Every time I run however, my watch doesn't do anything (I do want it to track runs!). When I've contacted the support team, they've directed me to the "auto track activities" under the settings on the app on my phone. I have them set how I'd ideally like them to work, however, that doesn't seem to be translating to the watch itself.

I hope this makes sense!

WOW you give better advice and direction than anyone who actually works for FitBit!!! This was the exact fix for my elliptical problem. All of the support team kept directing me to settings on the app on my phone ... I never even knew that there were settings that could be adjusted right on the watch.

I still have no idea why my runs aren't tracking (maybe because I'm too slow.. hah!) But I'll work on conquering that next.

Thank you for your great help! 😁

@Meg8987   Not trying to brag — no, totally bragging here.  The trophy in my profile picture?  That is the Google Community Help Award from Spring 2024.  Not just for Fitbit.  For everything Google.

I don’t think it’s a speed issue with your run.  If you aren’t fast enough for a run, you should get a walk.
