Calorie deficit not working

I’ve been tracking calories using the Fitbit app and had a set up of a 500 calorie deficit per day which was helpful. This feature no longer works - it was working fine until today. It will only default to a fixed calorie goal. Any ideas how to fix it please?

Yeah, the value/ change for the ‘set your own goal’ isn’t saving to the DB or possibly is for a short while & it’s being overwritten (I work in software solutions)

Was just getting really into this calorie deficit tracking. Can still do it obviously but just annoying as the chart view isn’t accurate to what you’re wanting to focus on. Mine is pink most days as I’ve set it at 1200 cals now as the minimum I need to eat but want to eat up to 1400 on a normal day, more on more active days.

@Fi_H you are exactly right, I saw the same for a split second and then it reverted to the static value.

I have also seen the correct value show for a second, then quickly revert to the “set calories” instead of “fluctuating calories” left for the day. Hopefully a fix comes soon!

Do we have a timeline of expected resolution?

Hi David, thanks for the information. Do you have any idea when a fix might be available for this core feature?

This is annoying and frankly one of the only reasons why I am still supporting Fitbit is the calorie deficit nutrition setting and while it may be due to an iOS update conflict it would be great if Fitbit was able to find a solution for this. From what I have seen, this issue is affecting a lot of users and they must be as disappointed as I am that this is not yet resolved.

Another topic. Do any of you users experience the bike exercise feature underreporting calories, and distance ridden? Some users strap the Fitbit to their ankle which is a poor workaround. The other day the Fitbit recorded some 1041 calories burned but the distance ridden was shown as 0.3 miles. Clearly not the right number. If any users have a workaround, please chime in. Thanks!

Do we know if they understand the issue yet? This problem started for me a few days ago and it’s so frustrating. I keep searching for answers but can’t seem to find anything.

Me too it’s so frustrating 😖

I have this problem too. So frustrating.

Hi David, can you please provide an update on the issue? Do the technicians know what the issue is? Any idea of when it will be fixed? It’s been going on for 5 days.

Exactly. I bought my first fitbit ~10 years ago and over the years I’ve tried other brands like garmin and apple watch due to my various frustrations with fitbit but last week I had to come back to fitbit by buying this brand new inspire 3 *particularly* for the calorie deficit feature which I couldn’t find in other brands but now it’s gone 😞 This was literally the only reason why I bought the watch. I told this to the chat person too but they didn’t offer anything other than generic answers. They wouldn’t even provide the generic answers if this post wasn’t up. They told me the app was revised for enhancement and that they cannot return this feature to what it was before.

Then I told them this post was up and only after that the person took it semi seriously. But no plan or time frame was offered. Just “our team is working on it.

So luckily there is a lot of us. The more people care about this functionality, the more they’d care – apparently.

I hope the app has NOT been “revised for enhancement and they can’t return this feature to what it was before”!! That would be truly disappointing. Sounds like many users use this feature. Please keep pushing for resolution, everyone! Currently on day 6 without a fix.

I am thinking the same thing!

The more of us who can contact live help support the better. They have to log the issue / help request for every person who contacts them.

Yes I agree ! It's a huge disruption to my daily routine as my calorie
intake varies depending on gym etc .... there is nothing worse than
thinking you've over eaten !

Mine is doing it too. Main thing I use Fitbit brand for for over 10 years. Tried to look at other calorie deficit apps and cannot find a single one, only a calorie goal which is this issue now either Fitbit. Really hope they fix this soon, I rely on this daily

Hi David,
Thanks for the update. Setting a fixed calorie goal isn't the challenge, it's the dynamic goal we're all after getting back to.
There's never been an issue until a week ago and now the fixed calorie goal is overwriting the dynamic one.
I hope it gets fixed soon 🙂

I can't say I'm filled with hope - When our Google Chromecast developed a significant bug last year, it took them months to fix it. Only one of the biggest tech and richest companies in the world, eh?!
