I cannot update my Fitbit and tracking steps is hit or miss

I tried 3 times to update based on your instructions. I still cannot update. It says on my phone that Fitbit is 51% charged when my Fitbit says 100%. I am unable to press the update button on my phone.
I get my steps on my Fitbit haphazardly and not in real time. 
very frustrating
