I recently updated the firmware on my Inspire 3.
Now, when I walk around a bit, I get a new screen that I can't get out of and haven't found a way to disable.
I tried to upload an image of the screen to this thread but the upload fails. I'm probably too new.
The screen looks like this:
(time)
xx'xx"
Pace Avg
(duration)
This is obviously an exercise tracker, but I'm locked in on it and can't see anything else.
A swipe up displays more data (I didn't preserve an image of that). A second swipe up does nothing.
Other swipes do nothing. Tap and double-tap do nothing. Pressing the two side-bars does nothing.
So, how do I:
I tried to use Chat and they wouldn't help me. I tried a phone call and received the same.
I tried to do a return but Google claims that this device is out of warranty, even though I purchased an extended warranty.
If none of these can be done, could someone please suggest an alternate (non-Apple) vendor for a fitness tracking watch?

@SD-Peter @Inspire3User I think I figured out how to prevent the fitbit device from automatically going into the exercise mode when you walk around for a bit.
1. While at rest, from the device home screen, swipe left until you get to the orange "Exercise" screen.
2. Tap Exercise: walk. It is probably showing Walk as the default exercise type.
3. Without starting, scroll up until you see the "Auto Start" toggle.
4. Toggle "Auto Start" to the off setting.
This seemed to fix the issue for me. I have no idea why these settings are not with the device settings. I'm assuming you would have to toggle the Auto Start off for every exercise that you don't want it to throw into exercise mode. It's only been doing it for me on walking (though my app sometimes thinks I am swimming when I'm actually folding laundry, so that may become one i need to toggle off as well).
Hope this helps!

I don't have an answer but this is also driving me crazy. It starts automatically, I can't find a device setting to turn it off and I can't get out of it. The only option it gives is to pause and then finish the workout but I'm not actually done with my workout and I don't know if doing that affects the data in the fitbit app. I just want to get out of that screen on the device (or preferably never see it in the first place)

@SD-Peter @VanessaF1000 , A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your messages and efforts.
Inspire 3 automatically recognizes and records many high-movement activities which are at least 15 minutes long. See basic stats about your activity in the Fitbit
app on your phone. From the Today tab , tap the Exercise tile .
To manage which activities are tracked automatically or adjust the minimum duration:
From the Today tab in the Fitbit app, tap the Exercise days tile.
Tap the gear icon at the top.
Tap the activity you want to adjust.
Sync the Inspire 3 for the changes to take over.
Keep in mind that the Inspire 3 also can automatically detect certain workouts and open the Exercise app after a few minutes. To turn on this feature:

Hi @JuanFitbit,
Quick question ... I don't want my fitbit stop autorecognizing exercise. I want it to recognize exercise and record that data to the app without putting the fitbit device into it's hellish new exercise mode that I can't get out of. Which is how it was functioning before the update. If I change the settings as you suggest, will the app no longer autorecognize and track my exercise activity?

@VanessaF1000 , Thank you for your reply!
The first part of the instructions given for SmartTrack.
Turning this option on, will make the autorecognition run in the background . Keep in mind that only 7 activities will be recognized and recorded.
You should turn the autorecognition for Bike, Elliptical, Rowing, Run, Spinning, or Walk options, as described on the 2 part of the previous intructions.
These activities will turn the Exercise app on, and here it seems that you are having the difficulties.
More about this can be read here: Which activities does my Fitbit device track automatically?

The problem is still not addressed. All that's been suggested is to decrease the overall usefulness of the device. If the only way to resolve a problem with new Fitbit firmware is to chop off one if the "legs" that makes it useful, that's a net loss in my book.

@SD-Peter , Thank you for your reply.
You already mentioned that by swapping up you don't see the option to finish or pause the activity.
Please restart the Inspire 3 by connecting to a power source.
Press and hold the button for 10 seconds.
Release the button and you'll see the Fitbit logo and the tracker will also vibrate. This indicates that the restart was successful.
Verify if after the restart the pause/stop options appear after swiping up again

Totally agree. This is annoying me every time I start walking now and 10 min later the timer starts and needs to be stopped when I get to my destination. I'm assuming it is draining the battery more quickly.

That suggestion has been made previously by the @JuanFitbit . It's still sacrificing capability for convenience, where I previously had both.
As this removes the ability of the device to track exercise, it is, at best, a workaround.

Since I made the change to toggle auto start to off, the exercise activity is still being autodetected and added to my fitbit app. The irritating screen just isn't showing up on the device.

That's good news. I'll give it a try.

I just upgraded and lost all my info for the day. Attempted to access my dashboard on my computer so see what I could do and can't even find it anymore since going to "Google" and no way back. Frustrated with Google taking over

I tried this from the phone app and it doesn't update the Fitbit. I guess I found yet another bug 😞
I'm trying the setting from the Fitbit directly.

The problem isn't that we don't understand auto-detection of exercise. That has been available and I have been using it the whole time I have had the Inspire 3. THE PROBLEM IS THAT GOOGLE IS SO ENAMORED OF THEIR NEW SCREEN IN THE EXERCISE TRACKING THAT WE AREN'T ALLOWED TO SEE ANYTHING ELSE WHILE IT IS HAPPENING. The two primary things I want to see on the device itself are the current time and my steps for the day. And I could always get there, up until this latest update.
Not that there is any point in saying this, because "JuanFitbit" is clearly AI, and poor AI at that, which is why it made such a completely useless response.

Thanks @VanessaF1000 for the suggestion. However, I made the change & went for a 20+ minute walk and it did not autodetect it. So I guess I'll turn the stupid thing back on and continue being annoyed for now 😞
Google needs to wake up and understand that hating Apple more than we hate Google is NOT necessarily a permanent state.

I got this issue after updating my inspire 3 to newest firmware. It drives me and my wife crazy. All exercises are set to ignored, watch restarted. Did not help.
How do I disable this???
