Inspire 3 not tracking sleep stages

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just got my Fitbit inspire 3 I have been manually telling it to start my sleep each night. It’s tacks my sleep and shows hours awake, asleep and restless but when I got to look at the sleep stages for the night the bar is grey with dashes and says it didn’t track it. I mainly bought the wake for this reason.

I mainly bought the watch for tracking my sleep stages (rem/deep/light sleep) and I need to figure out how to get it to work very soon or I’ll have to return the watch

@sarahbeth10 , Nice to see you around. Thank you for sharing your experience.

@Galaxykitten , A warm welcome to the Community !Thank you for your message and feedback.

The following conditions can prevent the recording of sleep stages:

- You record your sleep using the app instead of the tracker's automatic sleep detection.
- The tracker's battery is almost empty when you go to bed (below 25%). This prevents a regular recording of the heart rate.
- You use the metal bracelet while sleeping
- You sleep less than 3 hours.
- The bracelet is too loose or too tight on the wrist. You should be able to put your index finger between the bracelet and your arm without much resistance, so that your heart rate is recorded regularly and the sleep phases can be recognized.

If you tap the recording that doesn't show you any sleep stages, you should get a message explaining why you didn't get any. What is this message?

So from everything you stated being a possible problem I think it’s not tracking my sleep stages because I start my sleep manually through my iPhones app each night, if this is the problem I’m not sure why this should effect it tracking when the option is there it should function properly as in still track everything. When I clicked the dashed greyed out bars it didn’t say why it didn’t track the last two nights.

so should I do nothing tonight on my watch or app and just simply go to sleep with my watch on tonight?

@Galaxykitten Do not tell the app to start your sleep. That is more than likely the reason why it isn't picking up sleep stages. The app overrides the device it seems and you lose out on the detailed sleep data. Fall asleep naturally and don't tell your app when you are going to bed. The device will do the work.

I’m Going to try this tonight. So you’re saying do nothing at all on the watch or phone app before going to sleep just go to sleep naturally with the watch on and it should work?

I think it’s ridiculous that telling the watch I’m going to sleep messes up the data it collects. Doesn’t make any sense. Why’s that feature even on there if it just messes things up if you use it

I have just worn mine for first time last night. I started my sleep manually on my iPhone. I told it I was awake this morning. My stats were there 🤷🏼‍:female_sign:. So yours should have worked. I can click on the different stages and see individual graphs. I’m frustrated because my snoring isn’t appearing, (that’s one of the key reasons I bought mine) I’ve followed all the steps from multiple suggestions, just not there. Very frustrating for us. Why so complicated?

I did not get the sleep stats until I  had worn it for 12 nights.  I was starting sleep with the app for the first several nights then I  stopped.   Now I  get the stats whenever I wear it.

@lmacmil @Heather-S , Thank you for sharing your experiences and tips. Nice to have you around.

@Spudwoman @Galaxykitten . Nice to see you here.
The option to turn the sleep on on the app, is for Fitbit models that do not have the autorecognition feature.

The sleep mode on your Fitbits is to turn some features off, that might disturb your sleep, such as notifications.

The sleep schedule is for the tracker to remind you to go to sleep at a certain point, so that you get the rest needed. (according to your settings.)

As mentioned by our friend Heather-M , you don't need to do anything for the Inspire 3 to recognize that you are sleeping. Just wear it to bed, and after noticing that you don't move and your heart rate gets slower, the tracker will recognize that you got asleep.

@Spudwoman , I forgot to mentioned, that the Inspire 3 does not record any snore detection as it doesn't have the hardware for it. Only the Sense and Versa 3 can do it , more about this can be read here:

It's not very reliable anyway. I got up at 2:47am and went downstairs to read as I couldn't sleep. The app says I'd been asleep since 22:16 and slept all the way through to 9:45am
