This is my first fitbit ever (Inspire 3)- I've had it for three days now, but it is over-counting my steps by the thousands and in my sleep. By the time I wake up, I have like 20K steps (and no, I am not sleepwalking). The thing buzzes because it reached like 10K, so then it wakes me up. I didn't expect this to be 100% accurate, but come on- the first day I had it, it tracked like 45K steps. I wanted the Fitbit to track my steps and sleep, but this is so erroneously wrong that it's not worth keeping it. And where in settings do you find non-dominant vs dominant hand? I can't find it. And is that really going to help my situation? Help!

Even though customer service was helpful with trying out some solutions, they never solve the problem. I've found similar forums and complaints with other Fitbit models with no solutions, but I'm here to tell you-- I exchanged it for a new one and it is now working! So, if you're having these issues like I was (seriously- I was averaging 40K steps a day for the week I had the defective one and 2 hours of sleep a night, which were not the cases at all; it was counting steps when I was standing still!), exchange it!
I didn't know I had a defective one because this was the first one I ever had and it was doing all the other stuff right like heart rate and the steps seemed correct when I started a workout program, but the number of steps when not active was crazy. I wish customer service just could have saved me the time and told me upfront that the dang thing was defective from the get-go instead of going into the rigamarole of trying to fix a defective product. I've had the new one for two days and it is night and day different. It is matching my actual level of activity better (even the shameful 3k steps I'm actually doing in a day at my office job but this is why I got it). I'm going to see how it goes for the next week, but OMG, I just wish someone had told me the first one was.
