Kayaking logging as HIIT

I select kayaking on the Fitbit Inspire 3, start and end the activity, then sync in the app. Once synced, the activity logs as HIIT. 
I have had 2 chats with FitBit customer service and multiple emails back and forth with no resolution. None of the suggestions from FitBit have solved the issue and I have to assume at this point there is a glitch in the programming code. 
Is anyone else having this same problem?
