Recording totally wrongly when I am not wearing

Yesterday I was out for a long lunch, not wearing fitbit then did some shopping and got home around 19.30 and went to bed at 11 when I put on my fitbit.  However it says I slept from 15.42 to 00.47 this morning then again from 02.12 to 05.31.  I did sleep from about 11 til round 00.47 then probably went back to sleep around 2.15.  It's been doing this for a couple of days now ... recording sleep when I am not wearing it.  Can't understand what is going on.  Anyone else had this problem?

Hi, @ElizgC welcome, In my experience if you take off your Fitbit and place it face up on a reflective surface the LED continues to flash & the sensors create a weird record. Is your HR graph populated for the period you mention? In any event, if you place the device face down (or on charge) the LED stops flashing & the device "rests". You can clean up your record & edit sleep logs as indicated in How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities? - Fitbit Help Center

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks Gr4ndp4

It was in my handbag   Also it does  have heart rate graph which shows that for about 9 hours (with some dips) my heart rate was in the 100 to 157 range which even if I were wearing it would be totally incorrect.  My resting heart rate is  60.   It shows same for the day before very high HR  and I was not wearing then either   I guess it must be faulty  ... but ita very weird

Hi, @ElizgC, I assume the frequent movement of your bag triggers the device to look for a reading of your HR. I can only suggest you wear your Inspire 3 on your wrist. If you are concerned about its appearance there are many third-party Bands available on Amazon & elsewhere. The bonus will be you'll get reliable sleep tracking.

I hope this helps.

Hi Gr3ndp4.  I just re-read your messages and I do remember seeing flashing lights in my bag so I think you have solved the mystery.  I have been becoming a bit allergic to the strap which is why I only use at night but will try and find replacement.   Thanks again

@ElizgC you might consider putting your device in "Clip" mode during the day. That will allow it to continue to count your steps but will disable the heartrate function. If you aren't familiar with that, swipe down until you see "WORN On Wrist". Tap that and then swipe up and select "YES" to confirm the selection. When you go back to the main screen, you should now have a scrolling message that says "clipped on body".

Yes. I had my fitbit on the charger all day yesterday. This morning when I put it on, I was credited for 11000 steps yesterday. I hadn't worn it at all! Another time, (although not recently) I had gotten in 12000 steps on the night shift at the same time I was credited for 8 hours of sleep. It even credited my REM sleep It makes me feel like all of my data is a ruse!

Hi, @Llbryant18 welcome to the community, there have been a few reports of "Ghost" steps being recorded but they do not seem to repeat. The remedy is to Edit the data How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities? - Fitbit Help Center provides guidance. So far a sleep recording goes How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device? - Fitbit Help Center gives advice & guidance.

In essence, you are most likely to get reliable data if you always wear your device.

I'm beginning to wonder about some of my other data too as my sleep heart rate mostly seems to be higher than my at rest heart rate.
