Total miles different that miles in graph

My total miles shows 6.59 miles but when I add up the miles in each bar of the chart it only totals 4.04 miles.

Why is this?

Where is FitBit pulling the 6.59 number from?

The 4.04 is pretty accurate to what I walked today.

Hi @CKorrow I am having this same issue with the daily distance graph. I am asking some of my Product Expert friends if they are also having this issue. It’s likely a bug.

@CKorrow  @Heather-S   I looked at my graphs and am seeing the same thing.  This is certainly a bug and it looks like a really weird mile to kilometer mismatch.  When I do the math on your screenshots, your miles are being converted to km in the bar graph.  6.59 km is about 4.04 mi.  4.58 km is about 2.82 mi.  The same thing happens on my graphs.

@CKorrow   You wrote that you thought 4.04 seems right.  What is your step count for that distance?  2000 steps per mile is a rough starting place.  Is your step count closer to 8000 or 13000?

I'm always very nerdy about something like this.  This doesn't happen with metric distance.

Thank you! The step count was over 16,000! Which I know couldn’t be correct. I haven’t gone back to check all of my previous entries to see how long the readings have been so wrong. 😞 Any tips on fixing the bug?

And it does look like it’s been giving the false readings since I started wearing it, a month ago. And based on your estimate @LZeeW it is way overestimating my number of steps. I did just update the app and restart the device.

My steps match my miles but I do agree with @LZeeW‘s observation that it is likely converting the graph to km. My steps seems pretty accurate, but I’m using a Luxe.

@CKorrow Are you using iOS or Android? Can you also include OS version and Fitbit app version as well?

@CKorrow   First, the bug needs to be reported to Fitbit.  Don’t expect a fix anytime soon.  I know from my data that my distance shown in large number is reasonable.  The bars are wrong.  You are a very diligent observer to notice this discrepancy.

Wrist worn trackers can overcount and undercount steps.  If you think your Fitbit is overcounting steps, you can try the following.  Most people wear their Fitbits on their non-dominant wrists.  You can change the setting to dominant.  This changes the sensitivity of the accelerometer.  Keep in mind that it’s impossible to make the step count perfect.

Hi, I am using iOS 16.6.1 and the FitBit app 4.08.

Thank you very much. I’ll report it tho I did come across a thread that spanned two years of people trying to report this sane issue. I will also do some other testing, like walking at a track to see how well it is or isn’t measuring.

The only way I discovered this was that my partner and I wanted to compare my Fitbit data to her iPhone data after we’d taken a long walk.
