Android notification didn't work after a week

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

After waiting for months, I thought the Android notifications finally worked for my phone and Ionic but how dead wrong I was. The joy lasted only for a week (yes, the past week only). I am using a Xiaomi Mi Note 2 and I know it is not on the compatible devices list for the notifications feature but it worked in the past week!!

Anyone facing the same issue and got it fixed? Please share how you got it working again.

Hello @LeonS and Welcome.  I would suggest you perform a RESET on your Ionic.  This is accomplished by holding down the Left and Bottom Right buttons together and keeping them held down until the Fitbit Icon appears, then release.  This will usually get things back on track.  Please post back and let me know.  Thanks and Keep on STEPPING!

Thanks for the prompt response @GySgt_Seidell. Sadly, it's still not working after the reset on Ionic and restarting my phone. Weird thing is the Test Call Notification could be received. Very puzzling...

Hello @LeonS and thanks for the quick reply!  Unfortunately, I don't use Android (iOS here) and you have probably already done this, but just for giggles, let me go for it:

1.  Fitbit App Notifications:  Are they ALL turned on (Calls, Text Messages, Calendar Events)?

2.  Fitbit App Notifications/App Notifications:  Make sure the App's on your phone are being allowed to communicate with your Ionic (Turn the individual Apps on/off as needed).

3.  Fitbit App:  Close the App on your phone (totally, but not deleted) and Restart the Fitbit App, than Resync your Ionic with the Fitbit App (after verifying 1 & 2 above).

4.  Main Settings NOTIFICATION:  Hold down the LEFT button until the Settings screen appears, then swipe LEFT till you see the Screen Wake and Notifications area.  Make sure Notifications is also TURNED ON here!

Did that help at all?  Please post back and advise, Thanks!

Hello @LeonS.  So your Ionic is syncing to the Fitbit App on your phone properly, but no text messages and you were getting them prior.  What changes have you made to your Ionic since this started to happen (Clock Faces/Apps), if you can recall?   Thanks and please post back and advise!

Yep, my Ionic is syncing to the Fitbit App perfectly but no text messages are coming through now. Let's see what I could recall... I haven't touch the settings on my Ionic for ages. The only change that I could recall is the update on the Fitbit App itself. It stopped sending text messages after the Fitbit App update.

Hello @LeonS, more information for you:

ANDROID PHONE

Have your phone and Fitbit device nearby. Setup may take a few minutes. Since you need to make a choice about encryption, before you get started read our explanation at Are notifications sent from my Android device encrypted?

STEP 1: VERIFY YOUR PHONE SETTINGS

Open the Settings app to review your phone settings.

Confirm or adjust these settings:

  • Android version—Verify that the Android version is 4.4 or higher. Find this setting under About Phone or About Device.
  • Bluetooth—Bluetooth technology allows your phone to communicate with the Fitbit device. Verify that Bluetooth is on.
  • Do Not Disturb—This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off. Find this setting under Sound and notification.
  • Notifications—Your phone must be set to receive notifications before they can be sent to your Fitbit device. Check these settings:
    • Make sure your phone receives notifications while locked. Find this setting under Sound and notification.
    • If your Fitbit device can receive app notifications, make sure you can receive app notifications on your phone. For example, you can receive Facebook notifications on your Fitbit device, but only if you also receive them on your phone. Find the notifications permissions under Sound and notification.
    • Make sure the Fitbit app is allowed to run in the background on your phone. For more information, see Why is the Fitbit app sending a notification to my Android phone?
STEP 2: SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP

Set up the notifications you want to receive on your wrist. Make sure your charged Fitbit device is nearby.

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon (User-added image) > your device image.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Tap the type of notification you'd like to receive (Text Messages, Calendar Events, Emails, or App Notifications), and make sure it's turned on.
  4. Choose which apps can send notifications to your Fitbit device. For example, if you'd rather see text messages from WhatsApp than Messages, change the Text messaging (SMS) app setting. (You can only choose 1 app per category.) This list shows the most common apps for these features:
    • Phone app—Dialer
    • Text messaging (SMS) app—Messages
    • Calendar app—Calendar
    • Email—Email
  5. If your Fitbit device can receive notifications from other apps on your phone, tap App Notifications and make your choices.
  6. If you want to require that only encrypted notifications can pass from your phone to your Fitbit device:
    1. Go back to the Notifications screen and tap Require encryption.
    2. Close and reopen the Fitbit app to start the bonding process required for sending encrypted data.
    3. If the bonding process fails, tap Re-enable and try again. Most phones bond immediately or after a few tries, but some phones can’t bond to your Fitbit device. See the list of devices with known issues at What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android device?
  7. If you receive messages in a language that doesn't use the Latin alphabet, for example Cyrillic or Arabic languages, your messages may not appear properly on your Fitbit device. To automatically convert unsupported characters into the closest Latin equivalent, tap Enable Transliteration.
  8. Sync your device.
STEP 3. TURN ON THE DEVICE'S NOTIFICATION SETTING Blaze, Charge 2, Ionic, Versa, and Surge have a Notification setting on the device. To verify that it's on:
  • Blaze—Hold the top right button for 3 seconds.
  • Charge 2—While on the clock screen, press and hold the button.
  • Ionic & Versa—Press and hold the back button and swipe left to access the quick settings screen. Make sure you can receive notifications from your phone.
  • Surge—Swipe the touchscreen until you get to the Settings menu, then find Notifications.

Notifications should appear on your device when it's near your phone (about 30 feet). If notifications are delayed or missing, see My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.

Hopefully this will get you straight.  Please post back and advise.  Thanks!

@LeonS I hope you're doing well! Thank you for reporting the situation you are experiencing with notifications. Also, thank you very much for following the steps and workarounds provided on this thread in order to sort this out.

As you already tried all of the steps above, I believe the main reason why this is happening is because the phone model you are using is not a supported device.

The developer team is aware of the need to add new devices to the list of compatible devices. There are some users who can synchronize with non-compatible devices as well as using other features such as notifications.

Note that we don't guarantee that the synchronization/notifications will be successful as we are still testing on this phone model.

I'd recommend using a supported device to receive notifications if possible.

@GySgt_Seidell Thanks for your awesome help on this thread! @Rich_Laue
