Auto pause gets enabled automatically

I don't care so much for the auto pause feature so I turn it off. (Using in run mode, but I'm jogging/walking with dogs that stop to sniff and pee and other fun dog stuff, making it a very annoying feature).

So, I finish running with the dogs, end the workout and get on with my morning. Then I like to go for a run by myself and find, every time, that the auto pause feature has turned itself on again. Is there any way to disable until I choose to turn it back on? I would prefer that. 🙂

thanks very much.

Accepted Solutions

I believe I've solved this.
In the phone app-
Go to Account
Choose watch (Ionic)
Choose Exercise Shortcuts
Choose Run
Turn off AutoPause

Not a glitch, just buried a little bit. 🙂

@KerriGNM Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I'm glad you are using Ionic to do fun stuff like walking the dogs. I also believe that auto pause should be disable when walking the dogs.

This shouldn't happen. Auto pause should remain off. Can you check if the auto pause gets enabled again when you close the Exercise App?

Can you also check if auto pause gets enabled again just when you do it with the Run option? Or is it happening with every type of exercise?

Thanks for the response, Santi. 🙂
Auto pause turns back on for cycling as well.
I turn it off and do the workout and then finish it up and go back to the clock. When I check both of them (running/cycling) after this, they are both back to auto pause "on"... 😕

@KerriGNM Thanks for your reply and for sharing all of those details.

It is very strange. Keen to hear if any other users are experiencing this?

Have you tried performing a restart on Ionic to check if that would make any changes? That could help you out with this.

Try this out and let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

Yep, I've restarted it to no avail. I've also looked all over the Fitbit app for a setting and haven't found any.

I think that there have been other people reporting that the exercise App Settings just go back to default no matter what they do.

I know that at least my Ionic was doing that all the time a while ago. It fixed itself out of nowhere without any updates by Fitbit being involved so it must be some sort of bug.

@SantiR:

Okay. I have (I think) figured out what triggers the Auto Pause feature back to on. If I turn it off, it will stay off until I sync to the Fitbit app on my iPhone. This syncing is what flips it back on.

So, the question becomes HOW to make the default for Auto Pause "OFF" on my Ionic. I can't find an option for doing this on my phone.

Thoughts?

@KerriGNM Thanks for your reply and for providing that helpful information.

I was making some research and found more reports similar to this regarding the exercise settings not saving. Talked to the team and this is something that is currently being investigated.

Our team has received the feedback from everyone reporting this and is working to investigate these reports further. I will share updates from the team when I hear them. Thanks for your reports and understanding.

@Lufalulz I hope you're doing well! Thanks for pointing that out, hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I'm really glad to see that you found a workaround!

However, I do think that it is a bug. You can only edit a few exercise settings in the Fitbit App or dashboard settings, which means that the ones that are not there (Like top, middle, and bottom stats) are going to keep returning to default if they were doing it already.

Furthermore, I've had that bug with the exercise settings happening to my Ionic (as well as many people who also experienced that in one way or another) and when mine fixed itself, it didn't require me to do anything on the Fitbit App.

Also, after it was fixed and working as expected, any changes I made in the watch menus would be automatically updated to the Fitbit App settings (If there was such a thing for what I was changing) so even though that worked to fix the situation with your Ionic, I don't think that it was causing it.

Hi there,

I bought my ionic last night and I am having issues with it pausing during my workout and then ending the workout without me noticing. I tried to go to the exercise settings but there is only an auto pause option for running. My issue was weight lifting and just the generic workout. Any fixes yet?

@Jenna_Marie_D Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for reporting the situation you are experiencing with Ionic pausing and ending your exercises.

Is this only happening with weight lifting or is it also happening with other types of exercises? Also, are you receiving any notification whenever this happens? Are you double tapping the exercise when this happens?

Fitbit is aware of that and is currently investigating. The more details you can share, the better!

Hi there,

So far it has happened in the “workout” mode and the “weights” mode. It
does vibrate but sometimes I don’t feel it and just look at my stats and
it’s paused. I recently changed my watch to “manual” wake instead of auto
which is supposed to help this problem from what I have read of forums.

@Jenna_Marie_D Thanks for your reply and for providing that information.

Any improvements with the "manual" screen wake?

Could it be possible that you were accidentally pausing the workouts by tapping the screen or any buttons? I've seen this happening when users are doing exercises that requires their hands to bend (just like weights).

Try wearing the watch 2 fingers far up from your wrist bone. This will also give you a more accurate heart rate reading for high intensity exercises, by the way; and could prevent that from happening if that's the case.

Also, have you performed a restart already? Give it a try, this usually helps too.

Please keep me updated with this situation. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

I ran into this problem yesterday, there is no setting in fitbit app that disables this feature. I found a workaround in the web-app. You have to log in and turn it off in your settings.

Go to Settings -> auto pause -> edit -> uncheck for exerciseScreenshot_20180703-223934_Chrome.jpg

Hey there! I got my Ionic last weekend. I have had a few Garmin watches and but this is my first Fitbit. I have been having the same issue where I set auto-pause to ON and it always goes back to off... I'll be at a traffic light, or parking my bike and realize the timer is still running. It seems like it flips back to off every time it syncs to the app. The Ionic has been updated to the latest firmware and I have an international Samsung Note 8. Is there still some development around that?

I all, I started doing interval training recently and find that even though I have auto-pause set off my watch is pausing between intervals. I want to keep it running to track my heatrate recovery.
