I was sure this question had to have already been asked on here, but I did not find the exact answer I was looking for when searching. I went on a hike yesterday and forgot to start the Excercise app on my Ionic. After we finished, I noticed it auto recognized a walk and not a hike and my nephew, who I was hiking with, said his has done that every time.
Is this a common thing? I deleted walk from the auto recognizes list today, would that fix it? I was kind of assuming that it would be able to tell the difference between the two by using my GPS & elevation.
I was also wondering if I wanted to track myself and see my route on a map afterward using just the Ionic and not my phone, would I need to start the Excercise app first? Will I not be tracked via GPS if the exercise is auto-recognized?

@KevTheDev26, no the GPS is not used for auto recognized activities - it is used only for manually started/stopped exercise modes for which it is enabled. For an auto recognized activity, there is very little difference between a walk and a hike, other than perhaps the distance. Since you removed Walk as an auto recognized activity, the tracker should recognize your walk as a hike, but it may randomly choose another type of exercise. It is best to manually start and stop the Hike exercise shortcut whenever possible.
