Auto tracking swimming

So far my Ionic hasn't auto tracked any of my swimming. They have been about 15 min long and I have the time set to 10 minutes. This worked well with the Flex-2.

The swim in the exercise  app isn't really working for me as I swim in the ocean and don't do laps.

Hey there @kwaasen, it's nice to see you around the forums! Track swims on Ionic with the Exercise app.

  1. On your watch, open the Exercise app > Swim.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top left.
  3. Find the Pool Length setting and enter your pool length.

Note that heart rate detection is turned off while swimming.

With Flex 2 is different, the SmartTrack feature on that tracker recognizes and records swims that are at least 10 minutes long.

Hope this helps!

@MarreFitbit not needed to use the app for tracking swim. You can just setup the swimming pool lenght and start swim.It works fine on my Ionic.

I know in the "Options" menù near the auto track voice for swimming there is a comment "Only for Flex 2" but it's incorrect.

I bought  this watch for the swim mode.  And the HR has been disabled in swims mode. Why? Just to make us that bought this watch, mad? I can set the watch to exercise mode and record my HR while swimming; but, then I don't get the swim data.

@SwimmerMike the Heart Rate is disabled in swim mode because the optical HR sensor does not work accurately in water (any brand of tracker). If you swim using smart track to track it you still get a track of your heart rate BUT IT IS NOT ACCURATE. I use Smart track all the time to track my swims but just ignore the HR reading.

I keep the watch tight on my wrist when I swim to minimize water getting between the optical HR sensor and my skin. If it is so inaccurate not sure why it tracks it behind the scene and then gives a HR AVG for the swim, using the swim mode. It would be nice to have the option to turn on HR tracking in the swim mode. Fitbit could have a disclaimer if they are that concerned about it. I have not tried Smart Track; but, I will. I have read that others say it didn't recognize their swims.
