Automatic Lap Settings Lost Following Full Battery Drain

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I used my Ionic to track a hike for the first time this week, and discovered that I hadn't set the automatic lap notifications to my preferred distance, but when I went to change the notification setting via the web application this morning, I discovered that the setting for notifications for the "Run" exercise weren't displaying the value I'd previously set. The only thing I can think of to explain this is that my watch shut down mid-exercise this weekend due to a full battery drain.

Has anyone else had to reset their automatic lap notifications following a battery drain?

This doesn't align with how I would expect this function to perform.

This is not expected behaviour. Id suggest you restart your Ionic several times and hopefully it wont happen again. For battery life it is best if you dont allow it to fully drain, but I know accidents happen!

Actually, this is a known issue that Fitbit has indicated they are looking into.

I encounter this every time I initiate a run; I must remember to reset the automatic lap distance as it resets to 0.5 miles. (There is an on-going thread around this behavior, I don't have the link handy at the moment.)

Restarting the Ionic (any number of times) will not help correct this behavior.

@sfringer- I was previously having issues with the setting being reset to the default following a sync, but changing the setting via the web interface resolved that issue for me several months ago.

@NellyG- This seems like something that should have been posted about somewhere if it is a known issue - was there any announcement somewhere that letting your battery fully drain will reset your automatic notification settings?

@carlaSEA I've tried that workaround multiple times and it does not fix the issue on my Ionic. I just try to remember to reset the lap distance before each activity.

@carlaSEA I dont recall seeing one. It is not expected behaviour and as far as I know it is not widespread - I have seen very little about it on the forums.

I ended up having to restart my watch a few times in quick succession to get the automatic notification settings to stick, but they are persisting now.

The values in the web interface had been reset to the system default of 0.5 miles, which makes me think that the setting was getting reset on Fitbit's servers, which doesn't make any sense to me.

Can you confirm whether this is a bug that has been filed with your developers?

How is this "restart your Ionic multiple times" the accepted solution?

I indicated in this very thread that I am encountering this issue, and I performed multiple resets which did not correct the behavior.

It's getting quite frustrating that some of the accepted solutions are nothing more than random suggestions to reset the Ionic multiple times.

Since I created this thread to report a specific issue, and it looked like it had been resolved, I felt it was fair to mark that as an accepted solution.

However, my watch synced automatically about 20 minutes ago, and the settings are incorrect again, so I am going to change that flag.

@NellyGit appears that the setting is getting changed anytime my watch auto-sync via the dongle.

I had to update the settings before a hike last night, but they were still correct following a an over the internet sync.

Are there any known issues with the Windows 10 app and using the dongle to sync?

Thank you,

Carla

I do not make use of Windows at all (or any other desktop OS-based computer for connectivity to my Ionic). My Ionic is only ever synced to the Android app on my phone. It appears to me to be some interaction between setting the value on the Ionic or on the website prior to a sync.

@carlaSEA No issues that I have heard of. It sounds really annoying though. I think you probably meed to contact Support about it as normal troubleshooting is not fixing it.

@sfringer when a thread is marked as a solution it is because the problem has been solved for the original poster. It is NOT saying the problem is solved for everyone who encounters that problem.
