Battery at zero

My ionic died a few days ago and ever since every time I plug it in no matter how long the battery stays at zero. Even when I restart the ionic the battery icon percentage says zero. It will look like the battery is charging on the screen but there is a red dot next to it. No matter how long I keep it connected to the charger it does not charge.
