May I ask what type of phone and tablet are you having problems with @Kimjulie67?

Since two devices have been mentioned, when trying to sync through the one device, make sure that the Bluetooth on the other device is turned off.

I am using samsung s7 and samsung 10.1 2014 edition with down tablet. All
devices have Bluetooth on when needed and not together. I phoned fitbit
yesterday and was told that the Bluetooth only works with the Wi-Fi or
mobile net work which is odd as i use Bluetooth headphones and no network
when running! They did some sort of test and said the Bluetooth is working
but their is a problem with the Wi-Fi on the fitbit which is a bloody waste
of time as I can't download my music again as I did a factory reset hoping
it would sort it.
Wish I looked at different ones now

Yes your headphones do not need wifi since they are only acting as an external speaker replacing the speaker in your phone. Now if you wanted to, let's say, listen to a YouTube video through the headphones then yes wifi out cell service will be needed.

With your Fitbit Wifi or cell service is not needed if you simply want to see what is on the  tracker from your phone. This is possible because the phone is acting as a remote display, in the same way headphones are acting as a remote speaker.

Now if you would like to sync then yes an internet connection is needed because a sync requires the data from the Fitbit to be uploaded to fitbits cloud service. It is like watching a video from YouTube requires the phone to be connected to the internet to be able to get the video.

As for wifi on the ionic, this is only used when updating music, apps or firmware. Plugging in the ionic to charge will cause the ionic to connect to your router, and update music and apps. No bluetooth will be used.

Why are people so quick to do a factory reset, which only needs to be done if the tracker is switching ownership?

Have you setup the tracker as if it is a new just out of the box unit?

@Rich_Laue, i think people have just got soooo used to doing factory resets all the time, because so many mods advise them to do so when as you have indicated in your post, problems can be worked out in other ways.

Generally I find a mod only suggests a factory reset after everything else has failed and rarely advised by mod.

The last time I suggested a factory reset was with a Charge 4 years ago, a mod sent me a pm dating that normally we do not advice a reset but in this case they did agree with me.

They wanted to make sure I understood that factory reset should normally not be advised.

Matt fitbit recommended it twice in this thread alone, yes it may be a last resort as you say, but over time others besides mods think its the thing to do and as you previously said, it becomes the thing people do. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Ionic/Fitbit-OS-2-2-Ionic-Firmware-Release-32-12-19/td-p/2986373

I was advised to do a factory reset as the fitbit wouldn't syn at all I
also can't use some apps or put my music on due to the ionic not being able
to connect 6o internet. I did everything first before a reset. Im still
unable to put Wi-Fi on the ionic as it keeps say their is an error and
customers services have identified this and are going to ring with a
solution hopefully so I can start running again with it. Not had any issues
till now and had it a year
