Hi,
When I first got my Ionic watch, I didn't have any issues to set it up and configure it. I noticed GPS was't working at all, therefore, I got a replacement from Fitbit.
After 2 weeks, I got my Ionic watch replacement. Really excited about it, I spent several hours without luck. The watch was in setup mode and I was no able to work at all. I have a Huawei mate 10 pro (not fully compatible with the watch per Fitbit support - I didn't know this when I bought my phone).
I tried Fitbit support, I followed all their recommended steps and we got the same result. My phone detected the watch, I was able to set up the WIFI (looks like that), and the upgrade stuck in downloading 1% or 5%, then the phone rebooted and went back to set up mode.
I love the Ionic watch, therefore, I decided to invest some time reading the manual of the watch to see how it works. Then, I found out the watch doesn't work with WIFI 5Ghz only 2.4 GHZ. This is key to know, because all my network equipment is google WIFI, it runs in 5GHZ and 2.4Ghz, but it will use whatever your equipment suppport (it will prefer 5 GHZ all the time). This is a problem with Google Wifi, because I was not able to disable Wifi 5 Ghz on my phone, therefore, I was connecting all the time to 5 Ghz WIFI. I had to use an old router and connected in my home, this router created SSID (wireless network) in 5ghz and 2.4 Ghz (it shows the 2 frequencies - My google wifi doesnt).
I connected my cell phone to 2.4 Ghz Wifi (i made sure Internet was working) and I started the process again to set up my watch. My phone detected the watch. I was able to set up with the new wifi, then it went to the download of the new firmware... I noticed it was able to download the firmware, then it proceed to installed. The watch restarted and It was working now.
I think the big issues with Ionic, it is using old technology (Wifi with frequency 2.4 Ghz) and newer phones and routers use 5Ghz frequency. You need to set up your home network with 2.4 Ghz (for the watch) and you will be able to set up your watch. It required some work, but it is a working around and now I am able to use my watch using latest firmware 🙂 GPS works in my new watch so, I am happy now. A little bit sad from Fitbit support. They told me right away your phone is not listed as compatible, therefore, your watch won't work. This is the reason I decided to do this long post in fitbit support. I hope it helps users with sync issues with their Ionic watch.
Have a great day!
