Calories burned ?

Hi everyone.

I’m new to Fitbit.. got the iconic for my Christmas.

I’m still realllyyyy confused about working out the calories burned, I’ve read everything there is to read and everytime I think I’ve got it.. it just doesn’t make sense again.

I’m looking to find out how I know the actual calories I’ve burned in a day through actually doing things like walking exercising etc ... so not including the BMR thing which is already there (find this annoying and misleading)

for example my automatic calories burned is at 1423 and today I’ve been very busy out and about and exercising and it’s showing now as calories burned at 1174 which makes no sense.

I know I’m probably just being stupid or missing something really obvious if someone could pleaseeee help 🙂 x

To see calories burned per workout, go into the exercise tile.

For daily burned calories, tap the calorie icon and choose which day you want to view.  From there you'll see a bar graph for the day and if you press the square icon in the upper right of the graph, it will expand to a detailed view where you can see calories burned in 15-minute intervals.

Hi,

So, the BMR calories that you are talking about essentially do not exist when it comes to the Fitbit system.  What you are talking about is calculated by using the pulse rate that comes through the heart rate monitor in the device.  So, when you go the activities tab in the log you can see there is a constant level that shows over the course of the day, this is basically that BMR, it is calculated based on your resting heart rate.  So, even if you are sitting at a desk, but your heart rate is over that rate you're going to have calories over that rate.  As you exercise or are active in any way there are going to be spikes, walking, jogging, yoga whatever spikes that heart rate above the resting pulse moves those calories above that line.

I hope that makes more sense, there is no BMR calculated that same way because if you look at your allotted calories for an empty day you will see that it is not the same as what might have been previously calculated for BMR, but technically that would essentially be the equivalent BMR number that FitBit is using for you.  You can also adjust this number through options in the log settings.  It is the blue spindle, personalized or sedentary, reduce the calories etc.
