I'm using the Ionic and an Android Moto-Z-Play.
I was on a flight recently that changed timezones and found a few problems you should get engineering to debug the timezone issue.
On the first timezone change, it took awhile (I'm guessing 5-10 minutes) to get the timezone right even after I took my phone out of airplane mode and the phone time updated immediately. I think I even did a manual sync and it still took quite awhile.
On the change back, after taking the phone out of airplane mode, I did a manual sync, and the entire fitbit hung and I had to hard-reset it (left and lower right button). I know it was hung because I have a clockface with seconds and the seconds were not changing.
Does the fitbit rely on sync to get the time updated?

It's great to see you participating on the Community @paulkinzelman! I appreciate the time that you took to post what you're experiencing while you're traveling with your Ionic. In order to change your timezone, your Ionic needs to sync to your account so it can take any changes you've performed in this case the timezone.
You may want to try this troubleshoot and check if the timezone changes faster: restart your Ionic and make sure you have the latest app version which is 2.66.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Best AnswerI got it to work and like I said, it also hung and I had to reboot.
My message is really that engineering needs to look at these corner cases and debug them to have a robust product. There are 2 cases that I've found:
1) timezone changing
2) hooking up a bluetooth headset that also can be hooked up to the Android that's paired to the Ionic. Several problems (already posted elsewhere) in this area - how to select who (Ionic or Android phone) is paired with the bluetooth headset and how to switch ownership.
Please forward to engineering and get them to look at these problem areas.
Having similar timezone issues.
Wouldn't it be easier to be able to set the timezone manually on the actual watch? It is, after all, a watch. Even my Casio can set timezone without a reboot!
