10/3 morning run, tracking with GPS, looked at watch at mile 2,
checked a couple minutes later and it was the workout screen where you scroll to choose exercise. So I restarted “run” and went home. Synced to phone, 2+mile run is not there, was never recorded, didn’t sync. This is a MAJOR reason for buying a gps tracker, it must work every time.
Other problems-
finally got pandora stations to show up when I forced sync for 15th time on work WiFi, got Home put watch on charger, Home WiFi, pandora station and disappeared!!!! Fitbit Please fix software! Will Ben returning off not fixed in next couple weeks for refund.
I was excited aboit Ionic becuase I like fitbit, battery life vs Apple Watch, and combined the function of my old gps running watch and all day tracker. But it was released with too many problems. Please post update on firmware fixes that may be in the future.

You mean Fitbit will improve further products, but will leave the Ionic and us owners without a bug fix for this problem?

That's how I read it.
This thread has a birthday in a little over a week, I cant see anything being done now.

My issues is during my workouts. I sometimes will get through most of the workout before i notice that it is no longer tracking and it's not seen from the watch that I ever did anything. I found when I do a hard reset of my watch it's fine for a few days to about 10 days. If I don't remember to reset my watch it will happen again like it did today.

This has been going on for a year this is ridiculous! In my emails to them they essentially palm me off and say they’re working on it. Excuse me. We’ve all spent our hard earned money on this to track exercise! What’s the point if it won’t do that? Terrible customer service.

Are you seriously saying that Fitbit will take this failure into account to improve future products? How about the $300+ product that I and thousands of others did, that has a fundamental issue making it almost worthless?
Lets summarise the facts:
1. This problem has been going on for over a year - a year - and Fitbit has not prioritized it in its firmware fixes. Its should be #1 because it represents a failure to do what the device is meant to do - track exercise reliably
2. The workarounds that have been suggested are no excuse for a lemon of a product. They may work for some people in some circumstances. I have tried every one of them, and none of them resolve the issue
3. Asking people to log their exercise manually "in the meantime" is an insult. We could log exercise manually in any fitness app and could have saved 300 bucks.
I appreciate it is a tough job being a moderator having to face the general public and all our venting. But we only vent because the product is a failure and after 1 year Fitbit has not made fixing this #1 bug fix and moderators are our voice into the development team and should be saying just that - the product is frustrating purchasers so badly they are turning away to Garmin in droves and vowing to not return.
We would all love to hear the release date for the firmware fix please - appreciate your support

I think you may have misread her post. @MarreFitbit wrote "further improve" and not future. Hope this helps "Clarify" the subject matter. Thanks folks and Keep on Stepping!

I've been having this issue off and on since the May firmware release. However, I haven't lost a workout since @runnerboi418 posted his workaround. I think it would be very helpful to the community for you / Fitbit to give an expectation when this will be resolved. That would help with some of the frustration. I'm not surprised that users are jumping ship to other companies' devices since they aren't getting any information that this will be fixed soon. Unfortunately, once they're gone, you'll never get them back.

If I see one more time the moderator use the same language and recommend to Log manually, I swear I will move to Garmin and will do everything in my power to move everyone I know to Garmin. I know you have a script to follow, but now it's the time to go back to the Fitbit manager who works with you and explain to them the level of frustration of the users on this forum, for this bug that has been not fixed for a year and get it done.

I forgot to tap my screen when running this morning and the Exercise app crashed at the first event checkpoint. So, the problem is still there. I just need to remind myself to manipulate the screen once I start an activity. Any outlook on a fix?

Just an update. In the past few weeks I have had no problems with recording runs, biking, walking and swimming. Also my music is working great......of course I stopped using my $300 Ionic and purchased a Garmin 645M.

Has anyone else noticed that the the Autolap function has changed recently?
I used to have to reset the following before each run
Show Laps = Automatically
Customize Stats > Top Stat = Elapsed Time
Customize Stats > Bottom Stat = Distance
It always remembered that Automatic Lap Settings > Lap Every = 1 mile
Now it seems to remember my settings for Show Laps, Top and bottom Stats but my Lap Every defaults back to .5 miles every time.
This must have been changed from the Fitbit app because there hasn't been an Ionic firmware update.
I've still be swiping the screen to stop the app from crashing at the first lap point so I'm not sure if any of this resolved anything. Has anyone else noticed this and have you noticed an improvement in the app crashing?

What annoys me the most is that they are still advertising the ionic despite it's problems! Us Guinea pigs are fed up. They've even supposedly developed better devices...notice they don't offer them to replace the sad ionic ones.

I must say the support from Fitbit the last day and a bit has been outstanding after my post in a similar thread regarding the Ionic issues. They have sent me a replacement Ionic so we shall see if the solves the crashing while I go out cycling. From what I have read here, it looks like that won't fix it but im optimistic.
Im curious though, the people who have used the Ionic to track their cycling, has anyone been able to go past the 2-2.5hr mark after fully charging their device prior to riding. I have not managed to go past that as the battery dies. In that time I would see the Ionic crash few times. I saw someone wasn't able to go past the 50mile mark in this forum.

Wow a free replacement...I wish, certainly worth a go if there is new tech in it. All I get is manually log it but you don't get any active minutes from that which is quite frustrating.

@DebDarl active minutes, I believe, are counted with use of your HR. What I noticed, if you don't turn on tracking any exercise ( or tracking crashes going back to watch face ) recorded HR seems to be a lot lower than during exercise tracking. It may be related to lower sampling frequency or anything that only Fitbit knows about. Anyway, I stopped tracking exercises because of this issue as I find it pointless and that's why I found out the HR gets even more rubbish than usual. If you log exercise manually, the HR is going to be the one you had during the logged period. During my last cycling ride, the peak I got is 134bpm, while the average is 87bpm. So it's less likely going to log you active minutes if the captured HR is not going to match the actual heart rate. The very same cycle ride was 183bpm max and 159bpm on the average according to the Polar chest strap which more likely I'm going to believe ( I control my effort and exercise to be in particular power and HR zones ). The solution may be just to log anything. If it crashes, just restart and later log manually again discarding "partial" exercises. This is what I do. It's totally unreliable garbage. After all, Ionic became for me just a regular watch showing time and calories ( with help of other devices to get more accurate readings but at least Ionic can show numbers ). That's not what I expected for the price.
