I have discovered that while I am in the exercise app, and am in the middle of that exercise, I can no longer use any of the other functions of the watch as it appears that the exercise app wont run in the background. I have to stop the data recording to unable myself to say check the weather for instance. Am I missing something or is there a way of doing this?

only music controls can be invoked using left button long press. nothing else. 

logically while doing excercise you should not do anything else 🙂
