Exercise Description/Differences

I have been searching for an annoying amount of time for the actual descriptions or differences between different exercise types the Ionic offers.  I have found no official statement from Fitbit and just very vague explanations from Fitbit employees in the forums bases on opinion and doubletalk that really don't say very much.

The Ionic offers "Workout", "Interval Workout", "Weights", "Bootcamp", and "Circuit Training".

Now in reality I know what Weights, Circuit Training, and Bootcamps are but not how these differ from each other in Fitbit.  From what I can tell they are all exactly the same as far as the tracker is concerned with the exception of their label in your activities list.  Which begs the question why have all of them and why add more almost every device release other than to advertise it supports more exercises?

I have already read through:

Also really why do Run, Walk, and Treadmill need to be separate?  Didn't the Surge combine the different types of runs years ago?  If you are limited to only 7 exercise shortcuts shouldn't these all be one then prompt you if it is an indoor or outdoor run/walk?

The answer has to do with MET, but ultimately, "why" questions are just going to be speculation. "How" questions are easier to answer.

@WavyDaveyI don't believe that is correct.  Repeatedly in the forum posts I linked to the Fitbit reps stated there is no difference in how calories are calculated between the different activities.

As for why and how, my base question is How are these activities different, or is it simply their name in the activity listing as is implied by the Fitbit reps.

The run/treadmill complaint also wouldn't be a difference in MET, if it was they would have separate Treadmill options for treadmill run and treadmill walk. Either way combining them into a single exercise that prompts you if you are walking or running and inside or outside would resolve any calculation issues).

I don't read either of the links you posted as implying that MET isn't factored in?

I'm searching all over for how to get Bootcamp as one of my exercise options on my Ionic ... can you help?

You have to delete one of the 7 by swiping left at the exercise. Then the + option will show the other 15.

It is stupid I know

Because running, walking, and tread milling are different?  😄

Why stupid?  How many do you need?  The Ionic will recognize if you do something else anyways....

The stupid part I ment is to see what are the other options you have is by only deleting another exercise.

I was looking for a long time to rearrange for the 7 I wanted but I never saw the option to edit until I deleted one.

I also wondered about this because I do some streaming workouts that cold be considered bootcamp/internyal/circuit training. I looked at the Ionic user manual PDF, beginning around pg. 38 there are several tables describing what is tracked with each exercise. This might be helpful.
