If I lift weights (I use the LA Fitness weight machines, no free weights.) at LA Fitness. Should I use the "Weights" selection in Exercise mode? If so, how does it track calories since it is not calculating steps or distance? Does it look at heart rate and then calculate calories? Should I even use this mode to calculate calories and other things while lifting weights? How bout the workout mode?

Yes, as you say start the session when you begin the workout and then finish at the end, without pausing in the middle. In this way later on you will know your heart rate will decrease during the rest time and especially how it is going to decrease more rapidly being fitter.
Body weights workouts are without any additional machines or free weights, using only your body, like those suggested by Fitbit Coach.

Hello @GHW and welcome to the community.
You are correct, the calories measured by your Fitbit during an exercise depends on several parameters and in particular the heart rate plays the major role.
For your specific workout I would chose Weight Exercise. I typically prefer to use Workout mode for exercises like Body weights.

Thanks. So I just hit the play button when I start working out, and then hit pause then stop when I finish, and it reflects all the reps and sets I did (and weight) to count calories? And same for workout mode? What did you mean by body weights? Thanks.
