I have been a Fitbit user since 2012 and you would think I would have learned by now.
I have had the SAME PROBLEM with the last 3 watches that I have owned, two Blazes and now my Ionic.
I will say that this is the last watch I will purchase of the Fitbit brand. NEVER AGAIN! I have FINALLY learned!
I have had this $300 dollar watch for 6 months and it is already failing to sync and this causes excessive battery usage as the watch continually tries to sync, but the unit has, for some unknown reason has lost the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connections. (I don't know which, because it states a different problem every time.) The ONLY way I can get it to sync, is to manually delete the Ionic and then add it again. Then when I try to connect it again, it successfully connects to the Bluetooth on my phone, but not my Wi-Fi, even when it's only 3 feet from the modem. Then the error shows that it's failed to connect to the Bluetooth!
At any rate, it syncs one time after all of that trouble and then it loses the ability to sync again.
I want to return this piece of crap for a full refund and buy a completely different brand. If there was somewhere I could review this junk on this website, I would let everyone know not to buy!

I believe that Fitbit uses subquality communications chips in their products.

The watch doesn't try sync until the app makes a request.
Most sync issues are with the app/phone

It uses a certified wireless chip from Cypress semiconductor. The company is reliable, and the chip is likely too, but results may vary, as the chips require the proper implementation of external circuitry and software. If you're an engineer or just interested in learning more, it uses the CYW43364KUBG.
