Hi @Chicn,
In order for the option to work, I need you to please confirm the following (please note, I need to know if these were all in place as of the last time you saw your phone):
1.) The Fitbit app is updated and installed on your phone
2.) Your phone's OS is Android 8.0 or Apple iOS 13 or higher
3.) Your phone is on and has a charge on it
4.) Your BT is on
5.) Your Fitbit app is running in the background
I also need to know if your Fitbit device has a charge on it, as the act of finding your phone can take a while
Please confirm so we can assist you further.

Thank you for confirming, @Chicn, and I do have one more thing for you to confirm: are all of the Fitbit permissions allowed on your phone? You can see how to do this here if need be.

Another important point: your phone and Fitbit needs to be in Bluetooth range in other words to be in the same area,

I have the same problem.
Fitbit Ionic is fully charged. I did a hard re-start.
It was working on my Android phone app for almost a year. I also installed the app on my IPad and it worked for 2 weeks. Today both quit, they don't recognize the Ionic, they both ask me to "set up a new device". When I try that, neither app can find the Ionic. In the Bluetooth settings on the iPad it shows that it is connected to the Ionic, but apparently communication between the device and both phone and iPad has failed.
Any more suggestions?

Thanks for visiting the Fitbit Community, @janetmcm.
Please note that if you've set up notifications in one of your mobile devices, a bonded with your Fitbit Ionic was created and it won't sync to any other mobile device until the bond is disabled. To disable the bond, it is necessary to remove your Watch from the list of Bluetooth devices in your mobile devices and then re-pair it to one of them by following the instructions shared above.
If you continue having difficulties to set up your Watch, please follow these troubleshooting steps.
Hope this helps.

I did not find that to be the case. I have notifications sent to my phone, but the app still worked on the iPad. This reply did not address the problem. I had everything set up and working. Then both devices quit working, they could not find the fitbit.
I did manage to fix it. I removed the fitbit from the list of devices on my bluetooth list. Then I went to the app "Set up a new device". While it was searching, I did a hard restart on the fitbit, holding down two buttons. The app found the fitbit and I set it up again. Had to do this with both the phone and the iPad and now they work again. The critical step was doing a restart on the fitbit while the app was looking for it.
