The center contact (for charging) in the back of my Ionic melted over one of the side contacts and won't charge now. The contacts were fine until I updated to the latest OS. I had my watch on the charger while the watch OS was being updated. Once the update was done and I got a full charge I put the watch on and went about my day(s). When it was time to charge again, I connected the charger to the watch and the magnet had a good connection but the watch didn't peep indicating the watch was being charge. I tried repositioning the watch and charging cable. I also tried different cables and outlets but still nothing. I then examined the back of the watch and that's when I noticed that 2 of the contacts on the back of the watch were blocked. It looks like the center contact melted onto on of the side contacts. How do I fix this? Is this a known issue with the Ionic? If it matters I have the Adidas Ionic version. I rely heavily on my watch for my running stats and everyday activities. I can't avoid to go out and buy a new watch. And if I have to, I would like to know if I should stay away from the Fitbit/Ionic due to this issue.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jolonic,
I hope it is still under warranty? If not then best you will get is a paltry 25% discount off another Fitbit.
These are not repairable.
Best I can suggest if out of warranty is with a steady hand, magnifying glass and a tiny jewellers screwdriver or razor blade, is see if the metal contact can be gently cleaned so it makes contact with the charging cable.
Other than that, in the bin it goes.

Hi guys hope you can help. The issue appears to have affected me. It appears the middle connection is misshapen. Also tried all troubleshooting and tried an alternative charger that a friend has (genuine)

Since my post, I did some searching on this issue and seems like it has happened to many other watches. What is Fitbit doing to fix/prevent this issue from happening again? Why should I purchase another Ionic if I could wind up with the same issue? I checked and my warranty is up. Your recommendation to use a blade and tiny screwdriver won't work for me, my eyes are bad and I don't have steady hands. I guess it's time to try another brand of watch to track my activities.

This just happened to me last night. The charger fried my contacts and my Ionic won’t even turn on. So frustrated!

Same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. The contacts melted over on my Fitbit Ionic Adidas Edition whilst on a run! The most annoying thing is that it’s just 1 month out of warranty! Very disappointing...

Same thing has happened to me today. I've tried different chargers and USB ports but nothing works. Looks like plastic melted over 2 of the contacts. It was charging just fine a few days ago and now nothing. I've been a fitbit user for about 5-6 years now and I'm very disappointed. I've had this ionic for just over a year so of course it's out if warranty. I really hope there is a fix to this problem or I will definitely be going to a different brand of watch for tracking my stats.

This just happened to me too. This watch originally cost me I think $299. I liked it, until the watch crapped out literally right after the year warranty ( a pattern I have noticed happens far too often with Fitbits) I called customer support and was offered 25% off a Fitbit of my choice as long as it wasn't the newly released Versa at the time. I got pretty heated and got the support person to send me a replacement. Low and behold here we are about 14 months since that time, and my charger connection point just melted and this watch is now a paperweight. This concludes my time with Fitbit. Going to spend my money on a Galaxy watch or something comparable. Fitbit just isn't worth it anymore in my opinion.
