Fitbit Ionic - Temperature sensor

Hi everyone,

Can anyone help me out on how to make use of the Temperature sensor? How can I get information from it?

It is mentioned in the official FitBit manual under Sensors - page 76. I thought it will be easy to find it across the OS, but there is nothing related to it. 😕

According to Fitbit in the development area, although the sensor exists, there are no plans to open an API for it. So, it doesn’t look like you’ll get access to it.

I’ll assume those are rhetorical, as you won’t get an answer.

Hi,

They are not rhetorical. I have to place questions, give time FitBit to give information and repond to the community's concerns so after a while I can document everything and place reviews around the websites about wearables.

This is the main way that FitBit gains either positive or negative reputation according to their actions. And this is the main way how companies are driven to change bad practices.

P.S. Thanks for your insights mate! 🙂

so, does the ionic have the temperature sensor or not?

The documents say it is there. But if having it and not able to use it is absurd imo.

it is probably related to barometer for compensation purpose like in garmin watches with barometer and temperature sensor

@SunsetRunner from reading these forums and seeing the amount & quality of answers by support staff to the questions raised by users, then yes, you're right. Most of them do seem rhetoric...

Fitbit may use the sensor internally for uses we're not aware of. Or they may release an app for it later. We can't know.

To me, I would think temp sensor is so far down the list of what I need from a fitness tracker, that I wouldn't consider its presence or not as significant. Also, I haven't seen any reviews that make any mention of it. It seems a really odd thing to ding Fitbit over.

@xchatter, what use were you intending for the sensor?

Work out...eat... sleep...repeat!

it would be an interesting feature where instead of you having to be near your phone to update and app it is just updated on your watch.

I thought some app will actually display temperature of some kind.

This would be the guess of most people when seeing it in the list of sensors.

I have a casio with temperature sensor and it displays it. 🙂

I have a watchface (Unicorse) that displays the temperature but the documentation leads me to believe it gets this from the internet (via your phone). I really hope we'll get access to the temperature API at some point.

Is there an app for recording body temp?

No, there is no app for tracking body temperature.

@fitfitvotbit If you are interested in sickness prediction, there is a watchface for the Ionic called Achu and also a partner beta  app for Android which is downloadable. I believe the IOS version will follow in due course.

The app / watchface takes tracker data from your Fitbit and you have to report how you are feeling each morning and any symptoms you may have for it to learn. After a while it will give a sickness prediction  based upon the data provided.

Hello everyone. Thank you for sharing your ideas about a temperature sensor for Ionic. Currently this isn't possible but you can share your idea in our Feature Suggestions board. Search for the idea first to see if one already exist so you can add your vote. The more votes an idea gets the more likely the developers will try to implement it.

Let me know how it goes!

In these new times of pandemic, the temp sensor suddenly becomes critical.  Early warning and contact tracing, etc.  The hardware on our wrists has the potential to help save countless lives and prevent further economic collapse.  I hope that Fitbit/Google is devoting sufficient resources to this.
