Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30-minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

Evening!
I just ran the update from my iPhone Xs Max for my Ionic. I received a message that the update was completed so I wanted to restart the watch just to make sure all is well.

The device doesn't turn on by pressing the left button nor does plugging it in. I had full battery before the install.

I haven't had any issues prior to running the update this evening--anyone happen to have any ideas/ran into this as of yet?

Thanks!

Patrick

@carlfxy

Oh it shows 27.60.7.14, but it showed that and the entire update hadn't downloaded. I know that because I wasn't getting the agenda app. I went back later after my Ionic was found in the Fitbit app and the agenda app showed up. However, I could set it up.  I had to wait again for the app to find my device, then set up the agenda app. So now I have to wait for the device to be found and maybe my sleep number will show up.

@Patrick8412I would try charging it for a while, like overnight. Then (or you could try this first) check out the following link (click on the ionic)

https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186/?l=en_US&c=Topics%3ATroubleshooting&p=ionic&fs=Search&pn=1

if it doesn't resolve your issue there's a link to customer support under that, and they will sort you out.

good luck

Thank you! As I was reading the response from the link, the device turned in itself while plugged into the charger (full bars still.)

All is good! Thanks so much!

Took some effort to update - typical connectivity issues between the watch, phone and WiFi.

After update, the watch became really slow.

The Agenda app asks for permissions and because there are no options I reinstalled it and it worked.

The new icons have different colors from the apps which is a bit ugly design.

The new exercises list which had a nice initial design now has just some text and became ugly. Having more exercises available is nice though.

I have the same problem I have been waiting anxiously, and I can’t get it. The banner doesn’t appear.

Haven't checked out the new stuff yet but just wanted to confirm that the Bluetooth Classic pairing issue appears to have been resolved.  I've been connected to my music controls ever since the update.  Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

So my unit is now bricked after trying to update. Did 3 button method. 2 button method. Nothing Works. And best of all i am over a year with unit. Just plain sucks. Warranty should extend when defects are due to OS update. Such BS.

Hello!  I've updated and love it - especially the clock faces being stored on the watch fantastic!

I have one question: - "Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations"

Will this affect my daily alarms?

Best Answer

AAAAAAAAAAAAnd another Fitbit Ionic bricked by update.

Nothing helps. Two buttons method, three buttons method.

It's so bad piece of software. I regret buying it in the first place.

Patrick- I had the same problem. Updated my fully charged Fitbit Ionic, restarted it, and now nothing but a black screen.

Update: I spoke to a technician at Fitbit. He troubleshot my issues. My Ionic is still under warranty. Fitbit is replacing my watch, and it’s already on the way. Thanks Fitbit!

@AMejia1976 don't fitbit devices come with 2 year warranty? Get yourself over to customer support and get the fitbit replaced!

@youhippy thats only in the.EU, but its not a bad suggestion to increase the warranty period to win back any disenfranchised customers 😃

@AMejia1976 contact support by phone ... Chat if you need to explain what happened. See if they can fix it... Also support has been known to send replacements just outside the warranty period. Good luck

Ah that's a shame. Hopefully those who have had their devices bricked will be able to get a replacement.

Mine updated perfectly fine. Took about 5-10 minutes. All is good...

If you're having issues updating your Ionic, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

@Dave2213 and @Huckleberry2015 thank you for contacting our support team, they will be glad to keep assisting you via email.

@Patrick8412 we're glad to see that your Ionic is working now.

@AMejia1976 Thanks for restarting your Fitbit Ionic, our team will be contacting you shortly. We're very interested in helping you with this.

@RobIgoUK Thanks for sharing your question. The "Battery Notification" will help you to know specifically what features you're not able to use when the battery level of your Fitbit Ionic is critically low. Your alarms shouldn't be affected, since we are focusing on helping users to be aware of this situation to charge it on time.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Anyone with older/earlier versions/build of Ionic successfully updated the firmware and not brick their watch, or have all the successful updates been with newer Ionic purchased recently?
