Mine works fine. I hate ANYTHING Apple. Different Strokes make the world go round. Maybe I should go to their forums and say so.

what is the basis for why it doesn't work as good....this seems like a complaint with no reasons.  I can tell you there are reasons for me why the apple watch is not good....for 1 pure touchscreen doesn't work well in cold climates.  It doesn't last long enough for me to run a marathon.

What are your complaints as to why it doesn't work as good as the Apple watch?

The Fitbit Ionic does play music a hell of a lot better than that Garmin

And this is where fit bit fails. With any optical heart rate watch, you really need an arm or chest strap for workouts. For just steps, the fitbit is fine but it cannot track intense workouts accurately

But when I do an intense workout it sure is nice to have my Wahoo Ticker chest strap for accurate HR. Which fitbit cannot do. Much more important to me th an music. That's why I have a phone

Sorry it isn't working out for you, @SunsAnvil.  My Ionic is working great, and several of my friends that have Apple watches are now buying an Ionic to replace them.   You may be able to sell the Ionic you hate, and buy something else.

If you bought it (are a customer of theirs) I would agree.

I am pleased with mine. The only issues I have found are:

-sometimes erratic to sync, other times works perfectly and not clear why (LG G4 running latest version of Android)

-system for loading music is like something out of 2005 (Windows Media Player????) - where is Deezer and Spotify? We don't have Pandora in the uk.

I have found the accuracy of the HRM pretty good and I've compared to a chest strap - it is slightly underestimating by about 3bpm during intense exercise but that's fine as the underestimation is very consistent. You need to make sure it's snug against your wrist.

I'm pleased with mine and glad I chose the Ionic over potential alternatives (Samsung Gear Sport, Garmin vivoactive 3).

For what specific reason?

Yes agree with most of what you say .. I have an iPhone but can see where your coming from.

The ionic is perfect for what a require which is the fitness aspect. It’s all in the name “Fitbit”

can’t fault the ionic at all, really pleased with it

I suspect the starter of the thread is an Apple fan boy 😀

but each to their own

There is no reason to hate it because :

- the Ionic is more like 25% smart watch and 75% sport watch so it simply might not be what you are looking for

- Ionic it's new(ish) to the market, just a few months old and it's software very young (needs more time to mature), it's unfair to compare it to the Apple Watch that's been on the market for almost 3 years now and it's on it's 3rd hardware version

- you can't compare the programming power behind Apple watch with Fitbit Ionic because Apple's financial power and resources are immense compared to the Fitbit

- your message is very succinct and since you did not provide any real info I don't know how we can help or advice you in any way.

Personally for me the Apple watch is flawed as it doesn't work with Android. That right there means it will never be a consideration for me. Not that I would consider it anyway with its poor battery life. Ionic is perfect for my usage needs.

Like someone said though, I understand why people prefer the Apple watch and that's perfectly fine. If the OP isn't getting on with the Ionic then return it and move on, it's nice to have options.

Which iPhone and what IOS? This can all be important to developers to help. This is one reason I do not care for Apple (I have an iPad but it will probably be the last). Many things from recording interfaces,, Guitar processors and more are always buggy with Apple products. The Apple updates the IOS frequently and breaks it again. Their products work well but it is the proprietary nature that cause issues if people want to interface other products. Then Apple diehards blame the other device. I don't know if that's the case here. If you phone and iOS version were listed as supported then issues should be minimal. For some reason it appears mostly Samsung and Apple users that make up the majority of the issues but I may be drawing a false conclusion. It helps if everyone has their retype menu and details in their signature but people just popping in and out will not do that. I wish I could help more but I do not really have any of the issues. There are tons of clock faces so I am surprised you can't find one you like. Maybe you could make a request in a developers forum or in here for what you want. Somone might attempt it. I had no issues with Pandora but they do nerd other platforms to step up here. It is not a Fitbit issue there as the providers supply the apps. Straight music transfer sounds like it should be fixed it removed until perfected. I had no issues other than one disconnect and it was very annoying that I had to start over. A resume feature is needed as is a better indexing system. If I had attempted to index my device with my full library in don't think it would have finished. After that I set my watch and phone right next to my router and had no issues. It was a tad slow but for some reason transferring through routers always seems slow. A PlayStation back up can take an entire day through a router (granted it much larger file size).

I do think there are big issues for some people and fitbit does need to address these. I think they still but how fast may be the issue for many.

The Ionic not suitable for fitness has too many problems, which with Garmin - Apple - Polar - etc. they do not happen:
- The Heart Rate Monitor is not reliable
- It is not possible to connect a bluetooth heart rate monitor
- The pedometer overestimates even on a non-dominant arm.
- Notifications arrive late even on "compatible devices"
- Not compatible with Spotify or other
Not to mention the Fitbit app!
- Synchronize with difficulty
- Apps and dials have no order or evaluation
- The caloric calculation is absurd (150g of Pasta alla Ragu 191 calories!?!?)

But the alarm is perfect

I don’t buy the maturity argument I am afraid. When you compare the price of the Fitbit ionic with the Apple Watch they are both similarly priced so I expect a premium product.

i have provided a more detailed list however this is the tip of the iceberg. I agree that, in time, many of the issues that frustrate me will, most likely, be resolved and I am not prepared to charge my device daily so fitbit is the best option but I probably should have gone with a more basic option (eg: charge) and saved a few pounds while Fitbit got their flagship sorted.

The complaint about clock faces is minor as are some of the others (such as 3 days to get the weather app working) but the fact that I spent an hour entering credit card details only to learn that none of my cards are available and the music failing to sync are pretty fundamental.

i manage my music library in iTunes but even when I listed a specific folder on the computer it still failed to sync so that is not an Apple problem.

"i have provided a more detailed list however this is the tip of the iceberg."

Unfortunately, you have not provided a piece of truthful information.

All that you've described as problems either does not exist or related exclusively to your phone or preferences.

Apple watches utterly sucks as a fitness tracker and they do not recognize elliptical exercise indeed.

I have both devices on hands.

I do not experience anything from your long list.

I have used fitbit watches since the fitbit one first came out. I still like fitbit but recently switched to Garmin. Only 1 reason. I train hard and need an external HRM. All the makers of wrist based optical sensor have problems with interval training.  Why fit does not support either Bluetooth smart or ant+ is a problem and befuddles me.

@Mishastr,

Agreed.  Right, as a simple point of reference, from @SunsAnvil post:

"The exercise app doesn’t recognise an elliptical trainer which is my main excercise format so I have to choose treadmill or let it autorecognise..."

Oh really?

fitbit-ionic-elliptical.JPG

"Actually changing anything such as 12 to 24 hour clock settings is extremely hard to do."

Is it?

@SunsAnvil, while you, like everyone else, are welcome to post your opinions...  Maybe you should become more familiar with your product for your own peace of mind.

Sorry to say it Mishastr but, the rationale that you do not experience the same issues does not qualify you to accus...

I have a windows PC desktop and work laptop. I am a keen photographer with several canon DSLR's and many lenses.

What I mean is that I am relatively tech savvy and certainly not allied only to Apple but the Fitbit Ionic simply doesn't work in many areas. Those that I have listed are all real areas of concern from my experience.

If you don't experience the same issues then I am very happy for you but mine has been very hard to live with except for the battery life which (apart from the non functioning music option) was one of the key differentiators for me.
