Today it happened the second time since last Saturday. Last Saturday on nearly 15km distance, and today 6km. GPS was in "Connecting..." state all the time. Tried troubleshooting after it happened the first time. It doesn't happen every time so it's hard to tell whether troubleshooting steps worked or not. Today proved that apparently didn't work. From my run I got this ( comparison with other trackers I use 😞
Green track is Ionic, Blue is Suunto Spartan, and Purple is PolarBeat ( not watch, just mobile phone app ). So it isn't a problem with GPS in my area ( like somebody suggested when I complained about last Saturday run ). I didn't press pause button either - I was looking at the watch and it was always showing "Connecting...". This started happening after I followed troubleshooting steps which I've been told to perform by the customer support in order to fix HR ( which didn't help ). However, I think it may be a coincidence as my Ionic is almost 1yr old so I guess this is already symptoms of the watch dying. I didn't want to interrupt my run and start playing with the watch to fix the issue. I counted it would connect eventually but it didn't. On the map, in the Fitbit app, I just see a dot as my track. Btw. both issues happened during running only. I didn't see it happening during cycling but when running, it's not happening every time so it may just be another coincidence.

@SunsetRunner, you're unbelievably patient with Fitbit ionic! After 15 months of struggling with mine I finally gave it away and replaced it with a competitor's product. That's been the best move I could make. No more inaccuracies, no more crashes, GPS disconnects or unbelievable metrics.
Fitbit customers think the Fitbit app is so powerful. I know that was one of the reasons I hung on to ionic for so long. Wrong! It's primitive as compared to others.
Now i have superior running analytics, week-long battery charge (even with an hour or so a day of GPS connection) and at-a-glance screen readability while I'm out running. In short, my replacement is reliable with a level of accuracy that I'm totally thrilled with. it's become a solid part of my gear, not the object of frustration and the cause of wasted time as the ionic had been from the first time I raced with it.
Life is short! Stop wasting your time!

@bmw54 my patience ran out when I was warned of being banned here by moderator. Moderators here are face of the company and this told me simply that company prefers to threat rather than improve anything. As you can see I own Suunto watch which is my primary one. Different watch doesn't change the fact that I paid for expensive Ionic which is not up to my expectations and is simply broken in the core. I jumped ships last year and as you say, the software is far superior in terms of all you can get from it ( custom sports, navigation, very detailed activity analysis including comparisons of stats and activities, ghost racing etc. ). The device is also packed with features and funny thing is that I paid for it pretty much the same as for Ionic. Ionic now plays just "supporting" role but it seems that it fails even in this. Today, again I can't sync it. Issue after issue.

Seems more of us are making that decision. Like @SunsetRunner I've continued to try to use my Ionic in a supporting role, but it is still unreliable compared to my replacement device. And your comment about data for analysis @bmw54 is spot on. I just added a running dynamics pod and am looking forward to being able to bring power tracking into my running (as well as even more detailed running analysis for things like ground contact time and balance). The ability to extend the in-run data views for real-time feedback wasn't something I thought I'd ever need, but now that I have it, I've got so much more flexibility.

@sfringer looks like it. Even my wife, so far quite a happy owner of Charge 2 decided not to go with Fitbit anymore with her next wearable device. She wants a smartwatch now and at first, she thought of Versa ( she just loved the design ) but seeing issues I experience with Ionic she has changed her mind and wants to go with latest Samsung watch now. Another customer lost.
