GPS dropout at 1km

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Ionic GPS stops tracking at 1km. This has started happening since I upgraded the OS on Tuesday night. (on average, it happens every second day).

I have contacted Fitbit and they said they are aware of the bug. Does anyone know how to downgrade the OS (go back to what was previously installed)? I am a runner and use Strava and this is really frustrating.

Thanks in advance

@Celeste14 Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for reporting this here on the Fitbit Community and for contacting customer support regarding this.

It is not possible to downgrade to a previous firmware version on Ionic or any other Fitbit device.

Fitbit is currently investigating this, your feedback is very valuable. I will share updates from the team when I hear them.

In the meanwhile, please let me know if the GPS map you get when you finish the activity is correct? Check if the map is showing correctly and the distance too low.

Keep me posted!

I have had this happen multiple times as well. Both before AND after the upate.  It reset itself 4km into a 30km race. I...was....PISSED

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, the map is showing as correct and the distance is correct as far as the Ionic is concerned (the Iconic has always been short).

Thanks,

Celeste

Hi,

Since Fitbit won't assist with a workaround I have found a temp solution. If you turn the automatic lap setting off (under exercise/settings (cog in LH corner) /show laps) this stops the watch from vibrating every km and has since worked (5 day i a row) without stopping the watch.

I hope this helps you as well.

@Rachel1985 @jettyp72 Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for reporting this situation with GPS tracking on Ionic.

Our team has received the feedback from everyone in this thread and is working to investigate these reports further. I will share updates from the team when I hear them. Thanks to everyone for your reports and understanding. @dorst622

In the meanwhile, please try the great workaround shared by @Celeste14 which seems to be temporarily fixing this problem. Please confirm if this works for you as well.

I am having some issues with my Ionic. When out running the tracker keeps stopping by itself. The fitbit logo flashes up and then it simply goes back to the home page. I then have to restart. This is so frustrating when tracking my runs. I have spoken with twice now and all that has been suggested is a factory reset or turn off the smart track. I have used this for 4 months and have only noticed these issues in the last 2-3 weeks. My friend who runs with me is still using his surge and he has no issues whatsoever. Fitbit also suggested that it may be the GPS and weather affecting the signal but it was a very sunny day with no cloud coverage. Has anyone else had similar issues?? Any help would be great. Thanks

Mine stopped tracking after 1km today as well as on my run yesterday morning - also after exactly 1km. Updated the OS late last week 😞

This happened to me again - and during my first South African time trial. 1.01k and then nothing. No GPS, no Strava, which is frustrating.

Running my first ultra next weekend and not sure if my Ionic with work. After all get issues I've had with the tracker, I'm become disillusioned that it isn't fit for the purpose I bought it: tracking runs, rides swims reliably.

Has anyone contacted Fitbit support about this? It's been at least a few weeks with this problem now.

I have been in touch and they made me do a factory re set with my Fitbit which has now resolved the problem. Just meant I lost all my music and settings etc!!

Do not buy this watch. Known issue on going for ages. Watch cannot record your times, it stops on 1km. Fitbit haven't fixed it and keep selling this watch. Make sure you read this.

It is not only GPS based workouts but any other, too. It's well known and well ingored issue of crashing Exercise app. To me, it happened many time during Run, Cycle, Workout and if I used any other type of workout it would happen, too. On crash there is a short vibration. I guess it is specific for the OS. There is no workaround. I don't use any cues, any laps, anything. All I do is just hitting recording and that's it. I lost part of my workout last Monday. It is the most critical issue and it doesn't seem to be addressed.
