Getting error 504 Gateway Timeout when setting up Fitbit Pay

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Fitbit support only to be told that the Ionic does not support Fitbit pay. That I have to buy the "special edition" Ionic to get that. According to everything I read now and before buying that is not true. That was a frustrating 30 minutes! 🙂

Anybody else having trouble setting up Fitbit pay today? The error is a 504 error (Gateway Timeout error in most places) which leads me to believe one of their servers is down.

504 is a gateway timing error, meaning the Fitbit app did not get a response, probably through the internet as fast as it wanted to.

Have you searched these forums for a 504 error, this usually is the easiest way to get an answer.

I would like to know what type of phone, I assume it is a phone, you're using?

A warm welcome to the Community @WHY-Dave. I appreciate the details that you've mentioned. You should be able to have Fitbit Pay on your Ionic, it just depends if your bank is supported.

Fitbit Pay changes in editions for Fitbit Charge 3 and Fitbit Versa, you can learn more about it by checking this article What should I know about Fitbit Pay?

In order to troubleshoot the error message that you're getting, I would like to make sure that you have the latest version of your app and then perform a restart to your watch

Thanks for your advice @Rich_LaueRobot Happy

Thanks Silvia. Fitbit should definitely work with your support team to understand the different products. I literally spent 30 minutes on the phone with 2 different people who told me I needed a "special edition" of the Ionic to get Fitbit Pay. I told them both they were talking about the versa and not the Ionic but they both insisted they were right 😞

I am on Android and the App is up to date Version 2.83. I restarted the watch, the app and my phone (Google Pixel 2 XL) prior to calling and posting here.

I just tried again and it is working now. The 504 error (Gateway timeout) leads me to believe you all were having some infrastructure issues the other day. Fitbit should check on that and work with your support team to be able to provide that information to customers.
