Why, why on God's green earth is this fitbit ionic not compatible with one of the top flagship phones for this year. I've seen some half **ahem** answers to this question but none that actually fully explain why fitbit has dropped the ball on the compatibility. There has to be plenty of other people out there that agree how stupid this is on fitbits part that still hasn't found a solution to this after 2 months of this phones release.

All of that can be said with even the "compatible" phones.
I had issues, and lately have been lucky I guess.
The Ionic itself still has issues needing attended to without even introducing a phone. Sleep reported 6.8hrs of sleep from 1am on a day that had just begun. It records steps while driving, and sometimes records half the steps that the pixel records.
If. You were referring to my comment as dismissing, that is not at all the case. Android update has messed with many things not just the fitbit. The Ionic is not past beta in my opinion, and though I love what it does when it does it, I feel my $300 and change could have been better spent.

Did you call the fitbit number or google?

I can say that the Ionic works fine with full functionality after the watch updated it's OS to version 2.0. Also make sure that you have notifications on (if the phone shows a circle with a dash in it, you have notifications disabled)

Specifically, notifications on texts and incoming phone calls do not work on my Charge 2.

I have an Alta. Won't sync with Pixel2 at all. When I delete and reinstall it only syncs once. Syncs fine with my iPad. I want a new Fitbit device, but not if it won't work.

I have a Pixel 2 - I must say reading these forums I`m feeling kinda lucky as have no issues syncing, sleep detection or updates etc. Maybe I`ve just jinxed it. The only issue I`ve had is a random night when it logged 66k steps. Support could not remove the entry from my database - which I find incrediable hard to believe but aside from that all good with Pixel and coming from a Polar M600 which was full Android Wear its working well for me in comparasion.

My Pixel 2 XL is still working perfectly as well. The biggest thing I run into is it will occasionally lock and require the pin code. When in this locked state it stops getting alerts but as soon as I unlock it with my pin the alerts start right back up again.
I'm not sure why Pixel 2 works fine for some but not others. I don't load any additional apps or watch faces on the device and I wonder if that is the reason I'm not having any issues.

Fitbit compatibility list doesn't include the Galaxy S9 or the Pixel 2. https://www.fitbit.com/devices

And yet Pixel 2 works for some.

Last week, my fitibit stopped showing my notifications on my Pixel2, but for some critical apps only (Whatsapp, Messages, Phone, Calendar etc), co-incidentally I had performed an app update in the Play Store. After some fiddling I got to the bottom of the issue - it's an annoying fix but seems to be a root cause affecting most Pixel 2 users so I think this is important. Especially as more and more apps take advantage of the new alerting features in Android, this is going to become more and more common.
Firstly - to get an app to notify you on the Fitbit Ionic, it has less to do with opening that app and fiddling with the notification settings within the app. It's far more important to go into Android Settings, Apps & Notifications, find your app, then select the 'Notifications' sub-menu there for that app.
Secondly, if you are in that sub-menu, if you only set the app to notify you (with no sound), while you will get a notification on your phone you WON'T get notified on the Fitbit Ionic. Rather, if you set it to notify WITH sound, then and only then will you get notified on your Fitbit.
The reason why this is an issue more than previously as it seems that phone apps can now define notification behaviours for many different types of app events, rather than just one notification for the entire app. In my case, the app update from playstore changed some of my apps to this new flexible way of setting notifications.
For example, if you went into Android Settings, Whatsapp, App Notifications - then previously there was a general all in one notification setting to set. However, now there is a setting for Group Notifications as well as Message Notifications as well as Chat history backup and Critical app alerts etc .... So, you need to click on each notification type to take you to an 'Importance' menu. Set the importance of each of these notifications to atleast 'High Make sound' or "Make sound and pop up on screen" for any type of event you care about seeing on your Ionic, for Whatsapp and other apps and to no notification if you don't care.
I don't like this, it's a bit onerous - surely setting Importance to 'Medium No sound' should be enough .... but hey I'm not sure if it is a Fitbit issue or Android issue and anyway it all works and I can now be granular and more detailed with my app notifications within my own control rather than just randomly working.
Personally, as a long time smartwatch user - I haven't had ANY apps on my phone make any sound for sometime, so this is also kinda annoying. Luckily though, if you set the app to notify on phone with "silent" noise, then this still works (instead of notify with no sound). So, I've basically set my "default" sound for notifications to be silent and I've set my default phone ringtone to be a completely silent audio file.

I think that I have found the ultimate resolution to this problem for everyone that has this problem. Here are the steps that I used to get my device to work with the way it was meant to.
I have been able to Sync change my clock face and even get application notifications from my phone.

I'm seeing a whole lot of mixed feedback. Most of which is saying the device and the phone don't work, but then there are some people that have no problem with it. The phone is still listed as not compatible for the pixel 2 and I am a little frustrated after these past few months of complaints from people Fitbit has not addressed any fixes for this issue. After reading through the responses I still haven't found a fix that works for everyone. Hopefully Fitbit can give us something more stable in the near future. Please if you find a fix that works for you, post about it so it can hopefully benefit someone else. Thank you for all the replies so far!

Anyone have quick replies working with a Pixel 2 from Gmail messages?
I don't even see a reply button just archive and clear.
The notifications themselves are coming through ok.
